Elmer L. Livingston

Elmer L. Livingston passed away at his residence in Grafton, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA, at the age of 93 years on Saturday, 08 December 2012. A Memorial Mass was held on Saturday, 15 December at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton. Father Michael Barrett officiated the funeral Mass. The family received friends on Saturday at the church. Inurnment took place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
Elmer was born on 25 October 1919 in Canton, Barron County, son on Antone Livingston and Katherine (nee Bloom) Livingston. He was united in marriage to Shirley Klima on 26 July 1952 at St. Mary Help of Christian Catholic Church in West Allis, Milwaukee County. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Elmer served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in November of 1945. After returning from the war, Elmer went back to work at Harley-Davidson, where he had been employed prior to his military service, working as a shipping inspector. Elmer retired from Harley-Davidson at the age of 65. Shortly after his retirement, Elmer decided to go back to Harley- Davidson, working as a tour guide until the age of 85. He was a longtime active member at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton and he volunteered his time with St. Vincent DePaul, as well as the Share Program. Elmer was a member of the Grafton Rose-Harms American Legion Post 355, and the Cedarburg Grafton Veterans of Foreign War Post 10171 for over 50 years. He enjoyed square dancing with his wife Shirley and spending time in the yard, but his true love was spending time with his numerous family members.
Elmer was survived by his wife, Shirley Livingston; and children, Christine Livingston, Jeanine (Duane) Wielepski, Karen (Donald) Volkert and Mark (Cheryl) Livingston. He was further survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Roy Livingston, Laverne Carriveau and Harvey Livingston.

Otto W. Pagel

Otto W. Pagel of Kewaskum, Washington County, Wisconsin, formerly of West Bend, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 years on Friday, 19 February 2010 at the Samaritan Heath Center in West Bend. He was born on 16 December 1914 in Oberhausan, Germany to the late Richard Pagel and Hedwig Voss. At a young age, Otto and his family immigrated to the United States and eventually settled in West Bend in 1926. Otto was united in marriage to Dorothy Kuschel on 27 June 1942 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Bend. He served his country honorably during World War II by enlisting in the United States Army. Following the war, Otto worked at the West Bend Company for 47 years before retiring as a supervisor on 01 January 1980. Otto enjoyed playing sheepshead and was a member of both St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum and the Fred A. Schaefer VFW Post No. 1393 in West Bend. Otto is survived by his wife Dorothy and his daughter. A funeral service in honor of Otto was held on Wednesday, 24 February at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home in West Bend. The Reverend Troy Swenson officiated. Entombment followed in Washington County Memorial Park also located in that same city.

Robert F. Gessert

Robert F. “Bobby” Gessert of Pleasant Prairie, Kenosha County, Wisconsin passed away at the age of 65 years on Tuesday 16 February 2010 at his residence. Robert was born in West Bend, Washington County on 15 June 1944 to Floyd Gessert and Esther Dilling. He was a graduate of West Bend High School and received a bachelor’s degree from University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. From 1964 to 1969, he honorably served his country in the United States Navy. In June of 1967 in West Bend, he was united in marriage to Kathleen. For over 34 years, Robert owned and operated his own business. He was survived by his wife and their his two sons. The Rev. Jennifer Arnold of Lord of Life Lutheran Church officiated at a private funeral services. This was followed by a private inurnment at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Mound, Racine County.

Elroy J. Borchert

Elroy J. “Ike” Borchert, of Jackson, Washington County, Wisconsin passed away at the age of 92 years on Monday 15 February 2010. Ike was born on 06 July 1917 to Hugo Borchert and Adella Dhein in Rockfield. He attended Rockfield Elementary School and graduated from Menomonee Falls High School in Menomonee Falls, Waukesha County. He later married Virgnia “Ginny” Schwamb on 17 January 1953 at Christ United Church of Christ in Dheinsville, Washington County. The couple lived in Jackson. He served in the United States Army for 5 years in the European Theater of Operations and the Pacific Theater of Operations during WWII, and was an active member of the Reserves for 31 years, retiring as a Major in 1977. Elroy worked at Bloomberg Leather Company for 8 years and then was a United States Rural Postal carrier for over 23 years, retiring in 1982. He also drove for Riteway Bus Co. The couple moved to Hartford Square Condominiums in 1998 and Elroy moved to Jackson Crossings in June of 2007. He enjoyed big band music, taking care of his home and yard, attending Brewer’s baseball games, traveling with his wife and friends and he always had a good story to tell. Elroy was a member of the Washington County State and National Rural Letter Carriers, 60 year member of the Jackson Staff Sergrant Henry F. Gumm American Legion Post 486, the Retired Officers Association, lifetime member of the Reserves Officers Association of the United States, Lincoln Lodge F & AM #183, Masonic Lodge for 63 years and a 32nd degree Mason, Tripoli Temple, Washington and Ozaukee Shrine Club and the Wisconsin Consistory. A Memorial Service for Elroy was held on Sunday 21 February 2010 at New Hope United Church of Christ at 4360 Jackson Drive in Jackson. Reverend James Hill officiated. Visitation was at the Church on Sunday 21 February with the Jackson Henry F. Gumm American Legion Post 486 walk through. A Masonic Lodge Ceremony followed.

He enjoyed shopping with his grandchildren and fishing. He was the father of three children.

Raymond W. Kirmse of Newburg, Washington County, Wisconsin passed away at the age of 78 years on Wednesday 10 February 2010 at his residence. He was born on 11 May 1931 in Fillmore to the late Elmer Kirmse and Julia Ternes. Raymond was united in marriage to Sally Olson on 26 May 1956 in Fredonia, Ozaukee County. They were the parents of four children. Raymond served in the United States Marine Corps in Korea. He was a life member of the VFW Waubeka Post #7037. Raymond was employed as an industrial maintenance engineer by the Godfrey Sentry Foods company for many years, retiring in 1996. He was an active member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newburg. He began his days thinking of other people by picking up bakery at Sentry in Port Washington and Piggly Wiggly in Saukville and delivering the produce to families and organizations in need. He love of Buick vehicles, especially the Buick Roadmaster, led him to open his shop, Midwest Roadmasters. He loved working in the shop with his son, Robert, restoring antique cars. Raymond enjoyed spending his free time at Harry’s Restaurant in Port Washington in the morning and Omicron Restaurant in West Bend in the evening. He loved spending time on his land, fishing and enjoying campfires with family, friends and his dog Belle. He also enjoyed grilling out, always saying, "I’m the expert, go away." He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel and Winnie; a brother, Orville; and three brothers-in-law, Wally, Clarence and Joe. A funeral service in remembrance of Ray was held on Thursday 18 February at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newburg. Reverand Jon Baumann officiated. Burial followed at St. John Church Cemetery.

Alfred W. Denetz of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin passed away on Tuesday 09 February 2010 at Kathy Hospice surrounded by his loving family. He was 82 years of age. Alfred was born on 26 November 1927 in Irma, Lincoln County to the late Alfred O. Denetz and Amanda Magnuson. On 30 June 1956, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Abraham at Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County. Alfred served his country honorably during the Korean War. Upon his discharge from the United States Army, he began working as a chrome plater at the John Oster Corporation. He went on to work for Milwaukee Electric tool in the maintenance department until his retirement at the age of 70. Alfred was a lifetime member of VFW West Bend Fred A. Schaefer Post 1393 as well as a member of the Moose Lodge in that same city. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his bowling league, baseball league and snowmobile club. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, his son Scott Alan and his sisters Linnea Fredricksen and Emily Pennow. Funeral services in remembrance of Alfred were held on Sunday, 14 February at 4 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 140 North 7th Avene in West Bend. Reverend David Schoob officiated.

John Francis Hayes

John "Jack" Francis Hayes of Cedarburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin passed away on 04 February 2010 at the age of 81 years. He leaves behind Rose, his wife of 52 years and five children. John was preceded in death by his father, Jerry, mother, Mary, and sister, Betty. Jack was born in Chicago and he graduated from St. George High School in Evanston, Illinois in 1946 and immediately joined the United States Army. He was in the service until 1948, most of that time spent in Europe. Jack worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad as a conductor and brakeman for 40 years and was a member of the United Transportation Workers Union for over 50 years. He was known as a hard worker with a laid back personality, a unique sense of humor and is remembered for his devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life including traveling, reading and taking long walks. Jack’s kindness and good humor will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Jack was interred at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. A service to celebrate Jack’s life was held on Friday, 12 February 2010 at First Alliance Church, W156 N10041 Pilgrim Road in Germantown, Washington County, Wisconsin.

Ralph E. Scott

Ralph E. Scott of Slinger, Washington County, Wisconsin went home to the arms of his Heavenly Father at the age of 82 years on Wednesday 20 January 2010 at St. Luke Medical Center in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County. Ralph was born on 17 April 1927 in Fredericktown, Missouri to Ralph Scott and Virginia O’Reed. He was united in marriage to Henriette "Rita" Kittinger on 12 July 1947 at Pinehill Methodist Church in Fredericktown, Missouri. Ralph served his country in the United States Army during World War II. During this time he met Henriette "Rita" in Vienna, Austria and she came to the United States with him in 1947. Ralph fondly referred to her as his "war bride" and after 62 years of marriage, they were still at war. Ralph was a member of the VFW Slinger Post No. 3358 and served as Commander in 1967. He was involved in Boy Scouts as well. Ralph enjoyed woodworking, gospel music and he loved playing sheepshead. Ralph continued working, driving as a courier for E.S. Service up until his surgery on 08 August 2009. He loved driving and staying active, having been a semi truck driver for 20 years. Ralph was known by many as "Smilin’ Jack." He was survived by his wife of 62 years and their two childrens. Ralph was preceded in death by his grandson Ricky and daughter-in-law Eva. He was such a gentle, laid-back, loving soul, who touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. After a very strong and courageous fight with cancer, he did not lose his battle, rather, he won the greatest gift of eternal life with our Savior Jesus Christ; his body just gave out. A memorial services for Ralph was held Tuesday 09 February 2010 at Divine Savior Lutheran Church at 3200 Highway K South in Hartford. Reverend Ricky Schroeder officiated at the service.

Frederic Henry Schille

Fredric Henry Schille passed on to eternal life with his Savior on 22 January 2010 at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was 77 years of age. Frederic was born on 17 January 1933 in the town of Trenton, Washington County, Wisconsin and became a child of God through holy baptism shortly after his birth. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John’Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newburg, where he became a lifelong member. After graduating from Cedarburg High School, Fred joined the United States Air Force and became a navigator on F-89 aircraft. While stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base in Marin County, California, he met the girl who became his wife, Margaret Wilson. They were married on 26 December 1957. After his discharge from military service, Fred attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received a bachelor of science degree in soil science. He also continued to navigate aircraft as a member of the Wisconsin Air National Guard and later the 440th Air Refueling group. Fred was a fruit and vegetable farmer and produced untold gallons of apple cider until his retirement. He enjoyed travel, playing cards, and his Lionel model trains, as well as spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved to tell jokes and everyone knew him as a unique character. His passion was creation science. Frederic is survived by Margaret, his wife of 52 years, and five children. Preceding Fred in death were his parents, Henry and Hermine Schille, his sister Ruth Stoker, his sister and brother-in-law Loraine and Oliver Wilkens, and his brother-in-law Elmer Wilkens. In accordance with Fred’s wishes, his body was donated to the Medical College of Wisconsin. A memorial service was held on Sunday, 31 January 2010 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newburg. The Reverend Jon Baumann officiated at the service.

Edward A. Kieckhaefer

Edward A. Kieckhaefer of Mequon, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin passed away at the age of 91 years at the Lasata Care Center in Cedarburg on 20 January 2010. With him was his beloved wife, Lulu, of 71 years by his side. A Funeral Service for Edward was held on 26 January 2010 at the Lasata Care Center Chapel in Cedarburg. Visitation took place at Lasata prior to the funeral service. The Reverend Philip Hilenbrand from Beautiful Savior in Mequon l presided. Interment took place at Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee.

Virgil O. Olsen

Longtime Cedarburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin resident Virgil O. Olson died on 18 January 2010 at the Columbia St. Mary’s Hospice in Milwaukee. He expired at the age of 79 after a long battle with cancer. Virgil was born in Strum, Trempealeau County to VictorOlsen and Olga Moe on 15 July 1930. He joined the Inited States Marines in 1947, served in the Korean War in 1950, and was discharged in 1951. On 25 May 1957, Virgil married Doris Dodge at the Open Door Church in Milwaukee. After his military service, Virgil worked as a roofer and a butcher before becoming a mechanic at Wisconsin Electric Power Company, where he worked for 32 years. After he retired, Virgil worked as a groundskeeper at the Mee-Kwon Golf course for 17 years. Virgil was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 7037 Waubeka Flag Day Post since 10 August 1964, the Korean War Veterans Post in West Bend, the Military Order of the Cooties, and the 40/8 American Legion Post. He served as a commander many times during his life as well as the Flag Day chairman. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1043 in Saukville since 1954. Virgil was a member of First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg, Ozaukee County. He was the father of five children. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Doris, daughter Christine, and sister Diann Owen-Thomas. The funeral service was held on Saturday, 23 January at First Immanuel Lutheran Churchat W67 N622 Evergreen Boulvard in Cedarburg. The Reverend Jonathan van Sliedrecht officiated at the service. The family received visitors on Saturday at the Eernisse Funeral Home ar 1600 W. Grand Ave. (Highway 33 and Highway LL) in Port Washington, with military rites. Private burial was at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove on Monday following.

Richard E. Fisher of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin passed away at the age of 86 years on Tuesday, 19 January 2010 at Cedar Lake Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on 16 January 1924 in Beloit, Rock County to Erenst and Emily Fisher. On 01 June 1944, Richard was united in marriage to Elizabeth Winders in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The couple moved to West Bend in 1950 where they made their home. Elizabeth preceded him in death on 08 February 1992. Richard served his country during World War II in the 16th Armor Division in Europe. After his discharge, he worked as a photographer and owned and operated Hollywood Studio in West Bend. He was the father of two children. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his granddaughter Valerie Jansen. He was a member of the West Bend Lt. Ray Dickop American Legion Post 36. A memorial service was held on Friday, 22 Jannuary at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home at 1315 West Washington Street, West Bend where the Reverend Mark Jansen officiated. Inurnment took place at East Lawn Cemetery in Beloit.

Peter J. Jushka

Peter J. Jushka the first administrator of the Milwaukee Area Technical School North Campus, Mequon, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin died peacefully at his Summit Drive home in Port Washington on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, with his family at his side after battling cancer. He was 73 years of age. Peter was born on 09 January 1937 in Port Washington to Joseph and Veronica Bilius Jushka. Growing up on Dodge Street where many of the Lithuanian descendants of this area settled, Pete attended Catholic school, Port Washington High School and entered the United States Air Force. From 1956 to 1959, he was stationed at Fort Walton Beach in Florida as a surveyor. Upon returning to Wisconsin, he graduated in 1963 from Stout State College in Memomonie with a bachelor’s degree in industrial education. During his college years, he married Jacqueline “Jackie” Zielinski of Manitowoc, Manitowoc County on Aug. 18, 1962 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He was the father of five children. After graduation, he took a job with Kewaunee High School, teaching math and business. He also taught driver’s education at the Manitowoc Vocational School. After a few years, he had an opportunity to move back to Port and teach at the high school, teaching welding and driver’s education. In 1968, he was offered to be the director of the Port Washington Vocational School on North Wisconsin Street which later became part of Milwaukee Area Trchnical College. During this time, he returned to “Stout” for a master’s degree in vocational education. He later became the first administrator of the “new” MATC-North Campus in Mequon. Peter concluded his career in education by leading MATC’s downtown Milwaukee Campus and Oak Creek South Campus as the district dean of the Technical and Industrial Division. He retired in 1993.

He was a past member of the Port Washington Police and Fire Commission and later became the Sixth Ward alderman from 1991 to 2007. He he held a place on the Port Washington Harbor Commission. He loved his gardening and his yard. In his retirement, he became a member of the Ozaukee County Master Gardeners. He enjoyed traveling to see his children and share their lives, seeing the country and enjoying friendships. He also loved to eat out and patronize as many restaurants as he could. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony and John Jushka. His memorial funeral Mass was heldon Thursday, 21 January 2010, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 430 N. Johnson St., Port Washington.

Robert Fritz

Robert Fritz of Bowler, Shawano County, Wisconsin, formerly of Hartford, Washington County, passed away at the age of 83 years at his residence on Monday, 11 January 2010. Robert was born 01 June 1926 in Hartford to Peter Fritz and Leona Margelowsky. He was united in marriage to Marlene Burg on 24 September 1955 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hartford. Marlene preceded Robert in death in 1993. They were the parents of eight children. Robert worked for Kraft Foods and Midas International in Hartford for over 38 years. He enjoyed hobby farming, playing cards and gardening. Robert was a member of the American Legion Courtney-Carr-Milner Post 19 and the V.F.W. Hartford Post 8834. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War where he received a Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marlene, his sister Joyce, and grand daughter Tammy Beder. Funeral services for Robert were held on Friday, 15 January 2010 at Shimon Funeral Home at 824 Union Street in Hartford where Chaplain David Stone officiated. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery on Saturday, 16 January with military rights.

Michael L. Tousey

Michael L. Tousey of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin passed away at the age of 46 on Tuesday 12 January 2010. He was born on 06 March 1963 in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, to Leo Tousey and Barbara McCullen. Michael served his country in the United States Army during the early 1980s. Later he became the owner and operator of PM Cleaners in West Bend. Michael enjoyed riding his Harley and spending time sitting around a bonfire. He is survived by two children. Michael was preceded in death by his father Leo Tousey. A memorial service in remembrance of Michael was held on Saturday 16 January at Holy Angels Catholic Church at 138 North 8th Avenue in West Bend. Cremation took place at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral and Cremation Service on that same city.

Arthur W. Schwartz

Arthur “Art” W. Schwartz passed away peacefully at the age of 91 years on Sunday, 10 January 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Gibeaut. He was the father of one child. Arthur proudly served his country during World War II with the Army Air Corps as a B-25 tailgunner in the South Pacific. He worked for Square D and retired from Johnson Controls. Arthur loved music and was a founding member of the choir at the Grafton Senior Center and a former member of the Ozaukee Chorus. A memorial Service was held on Saturday, 23 January at Grace Lutheran Church – ELCA at 715 6th Avenue in Grafton.

Earl Leroy Conley

Earl Leroy Conley of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin passed into his eternal life at the age of 82 years on Saturday 09 January 2010. He was born 17 July 1927 in the township of Crandon, Forest County to the late Edward Conley and Grace Ison. In 1945, after his high school graduation, he joined the United States Navy working as a Seabee, serving in Guam. Following his military service, he attended Oshkosh Business School earning a degree in accounting. Earl was united in marriage to Beulah Fuller on 05 June 1948. He later married Ruth Bodoh on 12 October 1974. Earl started his own public accounting business called Conley Business Service in West Bend and years later turned the business over to his daughter Barbara working together until her death in 1996. Earl retired that same year. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling, gambling and traveling. Earl was the father of five children. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Dennis and his daughter Barbara; two brothers, Edward and Lyle, his sister, Sylvia, two sisters-in-law, Betty and Loraine and one brother-in-law, Frank. Funeral services in remembrance of Earl were held on Saturday 16 January 2010 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 501 Walnut Street in West Bend where Reverend Frank Turpin officiated. Burial was at Washington County Memorial Park in that same city.
