M, b. 12 June 1930, d. 13 December 2009
Alan Wyant “Al” Wilkerson of Cedarburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin died on Sunday,13 December 2009, at his home in Saukville at the age of 79 years. He was born in Racine, Racine County on 12 June 1930 to Helen and Warren Wilkerson. On 22 April 1994, he married Sherry Jones. Alan graduated from Horlick High School in Racine and went on to Marquette University to study dentistry. He was six years into the program and decided that was not what he wanted. He entered the Navy and served four years, then transferred into the Air Force for two more years. After an honorable release, he enrolled at the Milwaukee School of Engineering to pursue his life- long dream of becoming an electrical engineer, and never regretted the decision. Father of one child.
He supported his family with various jobs. These jobs included working at the Boys Club supervising the pool area, teaching some classes at MSOE, one being how to use the slide rule, and working at a bowling alley. His job at the bowling alley entailed keeping the lanes running smoothly (ball return, pin setup, etc.). In fact, he was so mechanically inclined and he got the lanes working so well that they hardly ever broke down. The owner set up a desk and lamp so he would have a place to do his homework and paid him to be there just in case something broke down. Every evening upon his return home from the bowling alley he had his homework done. He managed to graduate from MSOE with a 4.0 grade point average and was also a member of the honor society, Tau Omega Mu.
A lifelong entrepreneur, Alan started his first business in his teens, doing small appliance repair and plating. He worked primarily in the electronic industry and spent a number of years with Web Press, Sun Chemicals, Louis Allis, Thermo Products and Allen-Bradley. Alan headed up the drives division in Cedarburg, Ozaukee County for Allen-Bradley. He also ventured into broader enterprises such as the renovation and operation of the Range Line Inn and various real estate investments. Alan was still running his latest business with his wife, Sherry, Gemini Corporation when he passed away. He had numerous patents and was a well-known expert in motor drive design. He was an alternative energy pioneer, inventing the original inverter that converted wind (or other) energy into AC current and sent it back to the power grid.
Alan enjoyed entertaining, international travel, animals, writing and researching homeopathic and alternative medical and technical advancements. Always an optimist, his perspective on life was enjoyed by all who had the pleasure of meeting him. He was survived by his wife, Sherry Jones Wilkerson, and his three children. Aalan was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Roger, and brother-in-law Alan Thompson. Ralph D. Morris of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin died at the age of 66 years on Sunday, 22 August 1999 at Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Administration Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was born 11 April 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Roy and Virginia Cardwell. Ralph worked on the family farm in Bloomington, Indiana until enlisting in the United States Army when he was 17. He proudly served his country in Korea and in 1953 was honorably discharged. He settled in West Bend and began to work for The West Bend Company where he met Geraldine Vujnovich. After a short courtship they married and had five children. Ralph was the owner of Morris Radio and Television in West Bend for many years. Back when TV was a very new and exciting appliance, Ralph wrote a weekly newspaper column for the West Bend News offering tips, advice and information about how the television worked. In the 1960s he moved to California where he worked as a long-haul truck driver until back problems forced him to find a different career. Ralph decided to move to Texas where he started a landscape business and was offered a position as the county's animal control officer. Ralph served in this position until his illness struck in the early 1990s. After being diagnosed with advanced cancer, Ralph moved to Fond du Lac to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Through the Veterans Administration, he volunteered for several drug trials and was able to put the cancer into remission three times. During this period he spent as much time with his children and "grandbabies" as possible. As the cancer took his strength, he moved in with his son Phillip in West Bend. Ralph tried to make the best of every day. Preceding him in death was a brother, Richard who died in infancy. Funeral services were held on Wednesday 25 August at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend. Father Jeff Haines officiated.
