Harold H. Steffen

Harold H. Steffen of Cedarburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA, went home to his Lord at the age of 87 years on Monday, 09 July 2012. Harold was born in the town of Jackson on 24 April 1925, son of Henry and Alma Schultz. He married Patricia Benning on 25 June 1960 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. Harold was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where for many years he played on the church dartball team and taught Sunday School. He was also the Church Communicator for Lutheran Brotherhood/Thrivent. In his youth, Harold was on the Shorty’s Artistic Roller Rink Speed Skating Team where he earned several medals. He was a graduate of the West Bend High School class of 1943. He joined the National Guard as a radio operator for the Armory, was employed by both Fromm and Pioneer orchards and worked at Dehling Shell Station and Grafton Service. Harold was also employed at F.W. Busch Company for 24 years as a welder. In his retirement, he worked at the Clark Station in Cedarburg, where he enjoyed chatting with his customers. He was on the committee that established the Ozaukee County 4-H Foundation and was a 4-H leader for Town & Country and Fairway clubs as well as county 4-H leader for the snowmobiling project. Harold was a member and treasurer for the Cedar Creek Snowmobile Club as well as a DNR instructor for snowmobile safety for 36 years. He was a member and treasurer of the local International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Union. In his spare time he enjoyed working in his garden, hunting, fishing, boating, trail biking, raising Brittany Spaniel hunting dogs and spending time with his family and friends and his four legged companion, Riley.
Harold was survived by his wife, Patricia, of Cedarburg; children, Suzanne Jochims (Michael) Flanders of Cedarburg and Jim (Coleen) Steffen of Port Washington; and one brother, Lester (Arlis) Steffen of Cedarburg. He was further survived by grandchildren, James (Jesse) Jochims, Michelle (fiancé Ben Murach) Flanders, Christopher and Kyle Steffen, and great-grandchildren, Liam and Emma Jochims. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alma; and a brother, Raymond Steffen.
Visitation was held on Sunday, 15 July at the Mueller Funeral Home, W63 N527 Hanover Avenue in Cedarburg. A memorial service was held.

Leo M. Komp of Hartford, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, passed away at the age of 77 years surrounded by his family on Wednesday, 11 July 2012 at the Samaritan Home in West Bend. Leo was born in Hartford on 27 January 1935, son of Theodore and Rose (Herbes) Komp. He was united in marriage to Mary Martin on 13 October 1956 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Mapleton, Waukesha County. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and cutting firewood. Leo was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for more than 40 years and St. Catherine Catholic Church.
Leo was survived by his wife Mary; four daughters, Debra (Steve) Waala, Lynne (Mike) Gross, Heidi (Frank) Galioto, and Julie (Mike Engelke) Komp; 11 grandchildren Anne, Greg, Luke and Andrew Waala, Sarah and Nicole Gross, Anthony and Tyler Komp, Nathan Engelke, Alicia and Peter Galioto; six great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Alex, Dominic, Laila, Corrine, and Sophie; and his siblings, Ted Komp Jr., Betty Scharpf, and Richard Komp. He was further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Raymond, Robert (Valeria) and Jerome Komp, sister Phylis Kiefer, and his brother-in-law Joe Scharpf.
Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, 14 July at St. Catherine Catholic Church, W359 N8512 Brown Street, Oconomowoc (Mapleton) where Reverend Mike Strachota officiated. The family greeted relatives and friends at the church. Interment with military honors followed mass at St. Catherine Cemetery.

Frederick H. Kissinger

Frederick H. Kissinger, also known as Fred, of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years on Thursday 12 July 2012 at the Hartford Care Center. Frederick was born on 26 June 1932, son of Harry and Mary (nee Schleining) Kissinger. He was united in marriage to Ruth Schlueter on 05 December 1959. After serving in the United States Air Force, Fred became a journeyman machinist and worked for the A.O. Smith Company for 43 years before retiring. In his spare time and after retiring, Fred’s passion was helping nature to grow. There were many times he would take his family out for a drive in the Kettle Moraine to walk through the woods and look for ginseng and other types of plants or to simply just enjoy the outdoors. He was a great lover of animals and was never without a pet dog or cat.
Frederick was survived by his wife of 52 years Ruth; his children, MaryBeth Kissinger, Nancy (Michael) Klessig, Tammy (Mark) Larson, Frederick Jr., Dianne (Ronald) Kircher, Daniel (Mary) Deering, Debra (Robert) Zettler, Darla Fischer, Dori (Donald) Schomisch; and 19 grandchildren, Deanna Torres, Jenny Deering, Karla Zommers, Karmen Peil, Jamie Salyers, April Hanke, Rachel Mikyska, Elizabeth Brandt, Jacob Zettler, Rhonda Woppert, Kimberly Bigelow, Nicholas Bigelow, Jacob Bigelow, Jesse Schomisch, Tracy Schomisch, Hunter Holz, Kyle Klessig, Miranda Larson and Dalton Larson. Also surviving him was sisterin-law, Flo Kissinger, nephew Scott Kissinger and niece Amy Kissinger along with 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. Preceding Fred in death were his parents, his brother Harold, and grandchildren Adam Bigelow, Steven Salyers and Richard Kircher.
Visitation was on Monday, 16 July prior to the service at the Twohig Funeral Home, 109 West Main Street in Campbellsport, Fond du Lac County.

Joseph T. McCaughey, also known as Joe, of Neenah, Winnebago County, Wisconsin, USA, formerly of Grafton, Ozaukee County left the life he loved at the age of 80 years on Saturday, 07 July 2012. Joseph was born in Chicago on 22 June 1932, son of J.E. and Florence McCaughey. He spent his childhood in the Chicago area. Joe graduated from Culver Military Academy and Northwestern University. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Joe spent his career in the automotive industry; as a district sales manager all over the Midwest, local sales or owning interest in a variety of dealerships. This love of cars was shown in what he drove, including a restored Mustang convertible. Joe’s favorite pastimes were teasing, fishing, golf, and flying kites, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
Joe was survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Beverly “B-Ann;” daughters, Kathryn (Al) Cissa of Dundee and Susan (John) Meinecke of Grafton; and grandchildren, Blake, Adam, and Austin Cissa and Claire and Sarah Meinecke. Joe was further survived by his father-in-law, Joe Braun, “outlaws” Marigen (Russ) Carpenter, Bill (Peggy) Braun, and JoEllen (David) Wollangk, as well as extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marion McCaughey; mother-in-law, Helen Braun; and infant granddaughter, Hannah Meinecke. A celebration of Joe’s life was held on Friday, 03 August 2012 at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 1621 2nd Avenue in Grafton. Visitation was before the service.

William R. Kleinert

William R. Kleinert of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, passed away at the age of 83 years on Sunday, 15 July 2012 at Cedar Lake Hospice in West Bend. Wiliam was born in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County on 21 October 1928, son of William and Martha (nee Kalbas) Kleinert. Bill’s pride was in serving in the United States Army with the 196th Regimental Team Headquarters Company in Alaska during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1953. After service he married Ann Nillissen. Bill loved the water. Along with waterskiing until he was 73, Bill loved to fish and enjoyed sharing the beauty of the lake and many fishing stories with his children and grandchildren. He loved teaching his filleting skills to his grandchildren. He had a sharp wit while playing sheepshead with his friends, yet we all will miss his gentle and kind smile. Bill was a proud Charter Member of the West Bar Sportsman’s Club, and the Moose Lodge 1398.
William was survived by his children Randy (Chris) of West Bend, Ronda (Tom) Sodemann of Waukesha, Kevin (Carol) of Valders, Kurt (Janet) of Cedarburg, companion Ruth Schwichtenberg. Donald T. Roberts of Cedarburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years at Lasata Care Center in Cedarburg on 16 July 2012. Donald was born in Escanaba, Michigan on 03 July 1924, son of Theodore and Martha (nee Barth) Roberts. He married Marion Schulteis on 14 August 1948 at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. Donald was a United States Navy veteran and a longtime member of the Cedarburg Peter Wollner American Legionr Post 288 and was also a longtime member of First Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg.

Kennart O. Maeder, also known as Ken, of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, passed away at the age of 58 years on 18 July 2012 at his residence. Kenneth was born in Ulm, Germany on 21 March 1954, son of Clifford and Rosemarie (nee Preiss) Maeder. He graduated from West Bend West High School in the class of 1972. Ken served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. For the past 40 years, Ken was an employee of Actuant: Weasler Engineering. He enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, race cars, music and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Kenneth J. Weber, also known as Ken, of Saukville, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA, was called home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family at the age of 65 years on Monday, 16 July 2012. Kenneth was born on 20 October 1946, son of Carl and Margaret (nee Augustin) Weber. He attended school in Milwaukee and West Bend, graduating from MPTI in West Bend. Kenneth served in the United States Army during Vietnam. Ken married Kathie Zimmerman on 24 June 1967 in West Bend. He retired from General Truck, formerly known as Olson Truck Leasing. Ken loved camping, painting, fishing, grilling out, spending time with his kids and grandchildren. Above all, he loved the Lord.

He served in the United States Army from 1959 until 1961 in Germany as a translator. Frank enjoyed going to Germany and every aspect of the German culture. He always looked forward to spring so he could go to Johnsonville. Frank worked for Kemp Dairy and Wilke Dairy for 30 years and after retirement, he became a school bus driver for Dairyland in Lannon. He loved his garden and flowers. Frank was a member of several clubs including Bavarian, Germanfest, Muller, and GTV Holzhacker Buam.

Richard J. Fries passed away at the age of 95 years on Friday, 01 June 2012 at Samaritan Health Care Center. Richard was born in Slinger, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, on 07 May 1917, son of Adolph and Marie (nee Merten) Fries. After high school, he joined the United States Army Reserves and then began his career at Slinger Foundry. Richard married Florence Peters on 13 June 1942 at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Richard’s love of his life was playing baseball including playing in the Land of Lakes League. His other passions were gardening, and spending time, when he had some, with his family and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Richard was a lifelong member of St. Peter Catholic Church, member of the Legion of Mary, and led the Rosary at church.
Richard was survived by his children Diane (Mike) Reseburg of West Bend, Gerald (Lina) of Waterloo, Iowa, Mary (Jack) Arnold of West Bend, Paul (Angie) of Glendale, Arizona, Mark (Linda) of Vacaville, California, Joann Fries of St. Lawrence, Janet Fries of Mayville, and LuAnn (Bob) Raasch of Hartford. He was further survived by 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, sister Mary Ann Getz, 3 brothers-in-law Jerome (Bernice) Peters, Fritz (Rosie) Peters, Earl (Pam) Peters, sister-in-law Mary Peters, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Russell Raymond Richard Runge of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away at the age of 82 years on Sunday, 24 June 2012. The Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, USA, native was an United States Army veteran, serving in Korea from 1951-1953 with the 92nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion Red Devils, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreigh Wars Runge Brothers Post 1691. Russell was retired as President of Gregg Metal Products, Incorporate in Menomonee Falls, Waukesha County and as owner and founder of Runge's Pony Hitch, also of Menomonee Falls. His ponies proudly pulled the Sprecher Brewery Beer wagon and participated in Wisconsin State Fair parades for over 20 years. He also participated in the Great Circus Parades of Baraboo, Milwaukee and Chicago. He was Superintendent of the Wisconsin State Fair Animal Care Building and in his younger years an active member of the Circle S Riding Club. Russell was a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Menomonee Falls, and the Abiding Love Lutheran Church in Cape Coral.

Erwin J. Benka, also known as Erv, lastly of Enon, Ohio, formerly of Hartford, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, passed away surrounded by his loving family at the age of 84 years on Wednesday, 18 July 2012. Erv was loved by many, and was a friend to all. He was remembered most for his sense of humor, shining smile, energetic spirit, and kind heart. Erv loved bringing people together to enjoy life.
Erwin was born on 26 June 1928 in Cudahy, Milwaukee County, son of Paul and Stella (Barnowski) Benka. He was united in marriage to Jean E. Collins on 11 June 1960 at St. Kilian Catholic Church. Jean preceded him in death in 2006. Erwin attended Holy Family Grade School, Cudahy High School and St. Norbert College. Erwin was a Korean War veteran serving in the United States Air Force. He was awarded the Japan Occupational medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal. Erwin was graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a master’s degree in guidance, counseling, and administration, with a minor in philosophy. He also attended the school of speech and drama at Marquette University. Erv was a former English instructor, forensic coach, photo club and drama advisor at Oconto Falls High School. He then became a faculty member at the Hartford Union High School where he taught English and Biology. One of his proudest achievements was becoming a guidance counselor and mentoring many young students with their future careers. As a staff member, he served as a summer school administrator, directed the forensic program and the National Forensic League, served as an advisor for the drama department and the yearbook. He was a football and golf coach. He was inducted into the High School Golf Coaches Hall of Fame in 1991. Erv was also fondly remembered as the booming energetic voice of Hartford Orioles, where he announced many football games and swim meets. Erv was involved in many community and church activities: The Hartford Players, First National Bank Trapshooting Team, Hartford Conversation Club, Lions Club, Hartford Country Club, Hartford Booster Club, Hartford Christmas Committee, Holy Name member, VFW and American Legion member, volunteer at Angel’s Grace Hospice, a youth golf program instructor, enjoyed acting in and directing many plays and being a Little Switz ski patroller. He also participated in: Couple’s Bridge Club, Men’s Poker Club, was a proud member of the Maple Syrup Gang, and one of the founding fathers of BSRU Lodge, where many hunting, skiing, and family memories were made. Erv loved the great North Woods and his tree stand. He saw God in nature and in each person he met. Erv was a part time car salesman, owner of “Benka Painters,” and a life time Packer’s Fan. In his retirement, he enjoyed working at the Hartford Country Club Pro Shop and scheduling tee times. He moved to Enon, Ohio in July of 2007 and continued his zest for bringing people together by planning social events at the Willows Condominium Complex in Enon.

He was an altar server as a young boy, and became a Eucharistic minister, lector, Rosary leader and usher at St. Kilian in Hartford and Mary Help of Christian’s in Ohio, for several years. Mass of Celebration was on Wednesday, 25 July at St. Kilian Catholic Church (264 West State Street in Hartford) where Reverend David LaPlante officiated. Visitation was on Tuesday at the funeral home. Additional visitation was on Wednesday at the church. Rosary service at The Chaplet of Divine Mercy was on Tuesday followed by a vigil service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors was at St. Kilian Cemetery following the Mass.

William R. Hoff of Mequon, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA, and Paradise, Florida ("House Bayou" on Longboat Key, Florida), passed away at the age of 90 years on 20 July 2012. Milwaukee Country Day and Cornell University graduate, decorated WWII veteran, retired treasurer of ACRO Automation, long-time Marietta Gang and Town Club member, and renowned master of the down-the-line passing shot.

Chershed grandpa of Heather Hacker, Melissa (Jason) Winn, James (Mari) Jedibudiah, Bill (Jessica) Sands, Mike Sands (Brenda Maloney), Brian (Valery) Jahn, Jennifer Jahn and Lisa Jahn; great-grandpa of Kayla, Dylan, Alex, Kaelen, Madison, Ashlyn, Blake and Giuliana. Daniel J. Tomasini of Germantown, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 58 years surrounded by his loving family on 10 April 2012. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy Fromm. Daniel was the loving father of Daniel (Trina). He was the proud grandpa of Austin, Jazmine, and Daniel. Daniel was the brother of Karen Tomasini, Michael (Kathy) Tomasini, and Laurie (Randy) Walters. He was further survived by other relatives and friends. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents Daniel P. and Ethel (nee Hanson) Tomasini. Dan proudly served his country for four years in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Germantown American Legion Post 1. A private services was held. His final resting place is at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield.

Wegner, of Grafton who died at the age of 82 years on Sunday, 10 June 2012 at Columbia St. Mary – Horizon Hospice in Mequon. Visitation took place at church on Wednesday. Reverend Franz Rigert officiated the service. Interment was at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield.
Norman was born in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County on 20 August 1929, son of Norman and Hallie (nee Siefeldt) Wegner. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Nprman was a very proud veteran. He later married Joyce V. Schulz in Milwaukee on 20 October 1962. They were blessed with a daughter, Wendy. Norman and Joyce have been members of Pilgrim United Church of Christ since 1968. He was a member of the Grafton Rose Harms American Legion Post 355, a 25 year member of the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department, 32nd degree Mason and also the Masonic order of the Eastern Star. There are many things that Norman loved to do like woodworking, gardening, his train sets and he loved fishing. He caught a musky some years ago which warranted being mounted and is very proud of that catch. Norman knew how to make peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and his recipe for cheesecake was outstanding. he always loved doing something, so in way the family could call him a “putzer”. Norman has 3 loves beyond measure, his wife, his daughter and his 2 grandsons, all of which were the light of his eyes.

Mark was born in Kewaunee County on 23 March 1939, son of Raymond and Mildred (Hunsader) Shaw. On 24 October 1959, he was united in marriage to Donna Fameree at St. Mary Catholic Church in Maplewood. Donna preceded Mark in death on 03 July 2003.
Mark was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michaels and served his country in the United States Army. He was an avid hunter of any kind of game. Mark collected outdoors and hunting items at flea markets that he enjoyed going to. Most of all, he loved his wife, Donna, very dearly.

Memorial services for Mark was held on Saturday, 05 January at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum where Deacon Ralph Horner officiated. Military honor rites by members of the Kewaskum Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 followed the service. Inurnment took place at a later date in St. Michael’s Catholic Church Cemetery in St. Michaels.

Pastor George W. Kallenbach of Pioneer Road in Cedarburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA, passed away at the age of 73 years on Monday evening, 23 July 2012 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. Pastor George was born on 29 July 1938, son of George and Clementine (nee Wiesmueller) Kallenbach. He attended local schools, and joined the United States Navy in 1955. Pastor George proudly served until 1961. In 1963, he was united in marriage with Patricia Gandt. She preceded him in death. George followed his father into the plumbing industry, eventually earning his Master Plumber certification. He worked at Wuenne Plumbing in Grafton until he retired in 2000. In 1988, he married Jean Herek. The couple lived in Thiensville before moving to Cedarburg in 1994. George enjoyed photography and became a freelance photographer. He worked around Ozaukee County, later working exclusively for the News Graphic starting in 1998. His photography was featured at the Cedarburg Cultural Center from May through August 2003.
George heard the call of God and became a missionary, starting Kallenbach Missions International in 1999. He had a passion for children, a desire and willingness to serve, a love for Guatemala and a heart for God. Beyond his mission work, George had a love for his family and truly enjoyed a good cup of coffee. In his younger days he raced motorcycles; in the late ’50s and early ’60s he was sponsored by Harley- Davidson. He raced as an independent in the 1970s. George liked to go hunting, fishing and target shooting, as well as just spending time outdoors. He was best known for his great sense of humor.
George was survived by his loving wife, Jean; their five children, Kevin (Carijean) Kallenbach of Milwaukee, Steve (Jeanette)Kallenbach of West Bend, Catherine (Tim) Liston of Wautoma, Theresa Tomasik of Sheboygan and Carl (Jennifer) Tomasik of Oxford. He was further survived by eight grandchildren, Christopher, Caitlin, Alexandrea, James, Thomas, Jonathan, Stephanie and Lauren; other relatives and many friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, and two sisters, Rose Marie Kallenbach and Elaine Samp.
A celebration of George’s life took place on Monday, 30 July at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1167 Washington Avenue in Cedarburg. Pastor Brent Wiede presided. The family received visitors at the funeral home on Monday.

Richard F. Schuster of Cedarburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA, formerly of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, passed away on Saturday 28 July 2012 at Cedar Springs Health & Rehabilitation Center in Cedarburg. Richard was 80 years old born on 19 July 1932 in Milwaukee, son of Henry Schuster and Blanche Nay. After serving his country proudly during the Korean War, Richard worked in health care, testing x-ray tubes for General Electric. During his life, Richard enjoyed remote-controlled airplanes and boats, as well as golf. He also loved music, especially playing his accordion.
He was survived by his two sisters Evelyn McClure of California, and Therese (Jule) Godfirnon of Georgia, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law John McClure. Funeral services were held on Thursday, 02 August at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring Street Union Grove followed by burial with military honors. Father Jim Ernster officiated at the service.

Staff Sergeant Matthew M. Smolinski of Campbellsport, passed away at the age of 25 years on Monday, 30 July 2012 from injuries received in a motorcycle accident. Matthew was born in West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, on 28 November 1986, son of Michael and Brenda Smolinski. He was a 2005 graduate of Kewaskum High School. Matthew enlisted in the United States Army in 2005. He was a proud and honorable member of the military serving in Iraq and in Afghanistan. Matthew was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott. Matthew loved the outdoors and enjoyed the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers, but most importantly, he treasured his family and friends. Matthew will be deeply missed by his family, fellow Soldiers and by all who knew him.

Dale L. Wilke of Milwaukee, formerly of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, passed away peacefully at Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa, Milwaukee County at the age of 61 years on Wednesday, 25 July 2012. Dale was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, USA, on 30 December 1950, son of Marlowe and Vera (nee Gatzke) Wilke. He graduated from Random Lake High School with the class of 1969. Following graduation, Dale began working for the Gehl Company in West Bend. During the Vietnam War, Dale left the Gehl Company and served his country honorably in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Coral Sea. After his discharge, he returned to the Gehl Company and was employed there for many years until they closed. Dale loved the Packers and Brewers and especially enjoyed playing catch with his many nieces and nephews.
He was survived by his two sisters, Darlene (Gordon) Wieck of Plymouth and Diann (Patrick) Riley of Orlando, Florida; his brother, Darrel (Theresa) Wilke of Random Lake; many nieces; nephews; cousins; and other relatives and friends.
