Ernst J. Behnisch

M, b. 01 August 1926, d. 03 April 2013
      Ernst J. Behnisch, also know as Ernie, of Cedarburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA passed away peacefully at the age of 86 years at Columbia St. Mary Hospital in Mequon on 03 April 2013. Ernie was born on 01 August 1926 in Cedarburg, son of Ernst J. and Mabel (nee Young) Behnisch. He grew up in Cedarburg and graduated from Cedarburg High School in May of 1944. Following a six-month stint with the Merchant Marines on the Great Lakes, he was inducted into the United States Army and spent the rest of World War II with the 6th Ranger battalion in the Philippines. After peace was declared, Ernie was assigned to a Military Government unit, where he was a liaison with Japanese officials. In July of 1946, Ernie was honorably discharged from the United States Army and returned to Mercury Marine where he worked as an outboard motor mechanic. By the age of 23, Ernie was selected to set up the company’s first official service training center in Fond du Lac. From then on, the service department grew at a rapid rate and Ernie was then promoted to be the director of service worldwide for Mercury Marine. He traveled abroad throughout the United States as well as Canada, Europe, and Australia, starting training programs in those countries. Ernie was later promoted to represent Mercury Marine on the Corporate Responsibilities Committee of the Brunswick Corporation, Mercury’s parent company, for a two year period. He also served on the Marine Service Council of NAEBM, and conducted numerous seminars at the University of Wisconsin on customer service. Ernie retired from Mercury Marine after 44 years of faithful service in May of 1987.

Ernie was survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Marilyn Jost; children, Cathy Seippel and Daniel (Karen) Behnisch; grandchildren, Dr. Chelsey Seippel, Ashley Seippel, Jonathan Behnisch, and Elizabeth Behnisch; siblings, LaVonne (Melvin) Eischen, Marianne (Charles) Czisny, and Arbutus (Harold) Greenfeldt; sister-in-law, Marcy Boerner; and brothers- in-law, Ronald (Betty) Jost and Timothy Jost. He was further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Lester Behnisch.

A memorial service was held at the Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg on Saturday, 06 April. Rita Bert of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church officiated the memorial service. The United States Army along with the Cedarburg Peter Wollner American Legion Post 288 conducted military honors.

William G. Oelhafen

M, b. 04 July 1921, d. 07 April 2013
      William G. Oelhafen, also known as Bill, entered eternal life and joined his beloved wife, Glenice, at the age of 91 years on 07 April 2013 after a brief illness. Bill was born on 04 July 1921, at home, on the family farm in the town of Addison, the youngest of 12 children. He was the son of John and Bertha (nee Rate) Oelhafen. Bill was graduated from Slinger High School with athletic distinction in 1938. Several of his sports records stood unmatched for decades. He especially enjoyed playing baseball, including a try-out with the St. Louis Cardinals. Playing baseball on Sunday afternoons around the area in a league was one of his favorite things to do. Bill was united in marriage to Glenice Eimermann on 20 November 1941, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. They enjoyed almost 65 years together as husband and wife. In 1942, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country for more than three years including the Naval Reserve. While in the Navy, Bill learned firefighting skills. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he became a member of the West Bend Volunteer Fire Department. Eventually Bill became the head of the Rescue Squad, was the assistant fire chief, and ultimately became fulltime fire chief from January 1968 to December of 1979. During his years in the Fire Department he became a state fire instructor and taught innovative firefighting techniques throughout Wisconsin.

While working as a volunteer firefighter, Bill also managed his sister’s, Ellen Wentorf, plating company in West Bend, in addition to selling fire trucks part-time for a Milwaukee company. Bill’s commitment to public service also included his tenure as alderman of the 5th Ward and as civil defense director for several years. He was a hard worker, loyal employee, tireless public servant and capable leader. In retirement, Bill and Glenice spent their summers fishing and enjoying Wisconsin’s north woods. After Glenice’s death in 2006, Bill became a resident of Cedar Community. He served as president of the Resident’s Board and made many new friends in the six years he resided there. He was known for posting sage and witty advice on his door at Cedar Bay West. Bill was an active member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church for seven decades, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Wisconsin State Fire Chiefs Association,West Bend Lt. Ray Dickop American Legion Post 36 and the West Bend Fred A. Schaefer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1393. Bill will be greatly missed by family and friends, and will forever be in our hearts.

William was survived by his two daughters, Sharon (Tom Meierbachtol) Clark of Tucson, Arizona and Patricia Mayer O’Neil of Dallas, Texas; his devoted grandson, Matt (Sheri) Mayer; three great-grandchildren, Claire, Evan, and Madeleine Mayer, all of Wausau, Wisconsin; and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services in remembrance of Bill was held on Thursday, 11 April at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 809 South Sixth Avenue, West Bend. Reverend David Kellerman and Reverend Gerald Presuhn co-officiated. Visitation was at the church on Thursday. Burial took place on Friday in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Leo A. Groh

M, b. 11 December 1923, d. 09 April 2013
      Leo A. Groh found peace at the age of 89 on 09 April 2013. Leo was born in the village of Barton on 11 December 1923. He attended St. Mary Catholic School and in 1941, graduated from West Bend High School. He started working for Wisconsin Electric Company. At the age of 19, Leo joined his brother in the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was fortunate to be selected for the Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP) for seven months of accelerated engineering courses at George Washington University and City College of New York. Upon completion, he was shipped overseas to Europe to serve until his discharge in March of 1946. Leo achieved the rank of corporal and was assigned the duties of company clerk with Company A of the 381st Engineering Combat Battalion. Because he was the only serviceman in their unit with a camera, Leo also became the unofficial company photographer. After serving his country, Leo attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Milwaukee School of Engineering and UW-Madison.

In 1947 Leo began his career in production engineering with the West Bend Company. On 31 December 1981, he retired from his position there as the manager of Manufacturing Engineering. In retirement, Leo worked part time as a real estate agent for 10 years. He was an active member of Holy Angels Catholic Church; he was a past president of the Holy Name Society. In 1998, UW-Washington County honored Leo with a lifetime service award for his 30 years of service, including six years as alderman for the city of West Bend, president of the City Council, 16 years as Washington County supervisor and chairman of the UW-WC Board of Commissioners. He had an ongoing interest in community concerns.

On 09 July 1949, Leo married Patricia F. Hausmann, the love of his life. (He often told his family that choosing her was the best decision he ever made.) He designed both of their family homes, the second in which Leo and Patricia lived in for over 55 years. Among his life-long hobbies were woodworking and photography. Leo customized their homes with great care and provided his ever-growing family with a vast pictorial record of their milestones and adventures.

Leo was survived by Patricia, his loving wife of nearly 64 years, and their eight children, Karen Breit of West Bend, Allen (Christine) Groh of Wauwatosa, Margie Groh of Glendale, Nancy (Ken) Wilson of Fond du Lac, Janis Zarins of Appleton, Brian (Linda) Groh of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Sandra (Donald) Bost of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and David (Christina) Groh of Las Vegas, Nevada. Leo was cherished by his 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, with several more expected this summer. Leo was further survived by his two sisters: Lucille (Allen) Zautcke and Margaret (Richard) Klumb, five sisters-in-law, Charlotte (Leroy) Chapman, Marcella (Ray) Boden, Helen Hausmann, Therese Kohn and Frances (Gordon) Wilhelmi, as well as many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased in death by his parents, Albert P. and Apollonia M. (nee Fellenz) Groh, his brother Sylvester (Ella Mae) Groh, two sisters: Marcella (William) Vogelsberg and Olive (Clifford) Kissinger, and two brothers-in-law: Eugene (Verneda) Hausmann and Vincent (Jeanette) Hausmann.

A Mass of Christian Burial in remembrance of Leo was celebrated on Saturday, 13 April at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 138 North Eighth Avenue in West Bend. A reception followed the mass in the Walnut Room. Visitation was on Saturday at the church. Burial was on Monday in Holy Angels Cemetery.

Robertv L. Zehren

M, b. 29 September 1931, d. 16 April 2013
      Funeral services were held on Wednesday, 24 April 2013 at Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory, W63 N527 Hanover Avenue, Cedarburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA for Robert L. Zehren, also known as Bob, who died at the age of 81 years at Horizon Hospice in Mequon on Tuesday, 16 April from natural causes. Visitation was held on Wednesday at the funeral home where the Cedarburg Peter Wollner American Legion Post 288 performed a walk through. Inurnment was held on Saturday, 27 April at Zur Ruhe Cemetery in Cedarburg with military honors.

Robert was born in West Bend, Washington County on 29 September 1931, son of Alphonse and Marcella (nee St. Louis) Zehren. Bob was united in marriage to Kathleen Krause on 29 July 1967. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and liked to work with wood. Traveling was also an enjoyment of his. Robert proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Cedarbburg Peter Wollner American Legion Post 288. He worked for the Mequon-Thiensville School District for several years. Bob loved life, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Bob was survived by his wife, Kathleen; children, Lynda (George) VanDreel, Dennis and John (Doreen) Zehren; daughterin- law, Ruth Zehren; grandchildren, Edward (Lori) Arndt, Sandra (Travis Schoenborn) Arndt, Tim VanDreel, Brittany (John Stang) VanDreel, Eric (Kristin) Zehren, James (Lynn Filenius) Zehren, April Zehren, Jake Zehren, Travis Zehren, Eric (Kaley) Fuchs, Nick Fuchs, Emily (Brandon Hainstock) Zehren and Andrea (Daniel) Huffstetler; great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Robert, Susan, Andrew, Zaida, Laila, Emry, Ella, Liam, Adrian and Jordyn; siblings, Tom Zehren, Marjorie Anderson, Nancy (Donny) Peters and Sue (Richard) Weber; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Richard) Shallue; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Robert David McLean

M, b. 16 February 1923, d. 21 April 2013
      Robert David McLean, also known as Bob, died peacefully at the age of 90 years in his home in Hartford, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA on 21 April 2013. Bob was preceded in death by his parents William and Elizabeth (nee Logan) McLean; five brothers: Finlarig “Logan,” Menzi, Lockland “Scott,” Arden and Thomas McLean; and his five sisters: Agnes Hegge, Margaret Gates, Silver “Silvia” Saecker, Christine Metcalf and Iva Shish.

Bob was born on 16 February 1923 in Whitewater. He graduated from high school at the Whitewater State Teacher’s College, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He married Marilyn “Mitzi” Unterholzner) on 03 July 1953 and they were married for 59 years. They lived in a variety of Midwest cities and eventually settling in Hartford in 1971. He started working for the Milwaukee Railroad the day after high school and worked for them for 29 years with an interruption during World War II when he served as a PFC from 01 May 1943 until his honorable discharge in February 1946. After working for the railroad, he took a job as school business manager at Hartford Union High School and worked there for 17 years. Bob retired from Hartford Union High School, then worked for Shorewood Schools as an interim business manager for one year. He was proud of his Scottish heritage. Bob took his family to Scotland to teach them about their heritage and took his family to the Gulf Coast every year over spring break. Everything he did revolved around his love for his wife and family. Bob enjoyed helping others, was a member of the Hartford Rotary Club since 1971, serving terms of every office in the club. He was also the district financial officer for many years. One of the things he enjoyed was working with people from other cultures. Bob and Mitzi invited many Rotary international exchange students to live in their home over the years and had two granddaughters that were exchange students through his club. He was a United Way chairperson, a driver for the hospital van and a Schauer Center volunteer. Bob played sheepshead every third Thursday for 40 years and golfed with his pals twice a week if the temperature was above 45 degrees.

Robert was survived by his wife, Marilyn D. Unterholzner, his son Dr. Andrew R. (Victoria) Mc-Lean, his daughter Dr. Elizabeth M. McLean, his grandchildren, Mindy (Tony) Necci, Iva (Joseph) Plumley, Ginger (Michael) Auchter, Ariana Allexi and Orion Allexi, and his great-grandchildren Cole and Ava Auchter, and Madeline and Frederic Plumley.

The family received relatives and friends on Sunday, 28 April at the First United Methodist Church in Hartford. A memorial service followed at the church. Reverend Paul Johnsen officiated. Dinner was provided.

Major Raymond E. Gile (retired)

      Raymond E. Gile, Major-USAF retired, born in Laconia, New Hampshire. Found peace on 27 April 2013, at the age of 86 years. Dear husband of Betty, for 54 years. Loving father of William (Jackie) and Robert (Kathryn). Special grandpa of Andrew. Brother-in-law of Mary Ann Lonergan. Dear friend of Mike and Jeannie Neill. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation on Thursday, 02 May 2013 at the Funeral Home until the time of service. Committal service with full Military Honors at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, on Friday, 03 May.

Ray was retired from the United States Air Force, worked 17 years with Marquette Security, was a member of the Germantown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9202 and a member of the Germantown American Legion Post 1.

Fred Reimann

M, b. 27 September 1928, d. 22 April 2013
      Fred Reimann, of Wabeno, died at the age of 84 years on 22 April 2013 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Chippewa Falls. Fred was born on 27 September 1928, in West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, son of Fred and Wilma (Grothe) Reimann after they arrived in the United States from Germany. He was the first of his family to be born in the United States. Fred married Kathryn Gadow on 04 September 1948, in Barton. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1946-1949. He subsequently began his career in education, starting as an instructor of fifth-grade students in Mt. Prospect, Illinois. Fred continued his own education while furthering that of his students, studying for his master's degree in his spare time. After obtaining his degree in education administration, he became a school administrator; he was eventually promoted to assistant superintendent of Cook County, Illinois.

His love of children led him to purchase Trump Lake Lodge boys camp in 1955, which he and Kathryn operated until 1975. Fred thoroughly enjoyed running the camp and initiating various restoration projects — he renovated houses, dismantled and fixed tractors and mowers, and cheerfully lent a hand with ad hoc maintenance projects for friends and family. Fred was an Eagle Scout, a member of Rotary Club International, elected Walworth County Supervisor and a life-long member of the National Education Association.

Fred was survived by his wife Kathryn of Wabeno; four daughters: Kathryn (Bob) Lind of Minneapolis, Rhea (Dick) Teteak of Madison, Susan (Tom) Zwickel of Chippewa Falls, and Lisa (Roy) Myles of Gurnee, Illinois; and four sons: Fred P. of Wabeno, William (Joyce) of Batavia, Illinois, Kirk (Lori) of Wausau, and Karl (Kathy) of Janesville. He is further survived by brother-in-law Richard Quinlan of Wabeno, sister-in-law Patricia Reimann of Weyauwega, 17 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sister, Melitta, and two brothers, Hans (Gini) and Bob.

Funeral mass for Fred was held on Monday, 29 April at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wabeno. Visitation was on Sunday at the Weber Hill Funeral Home in Wabeno. Visitation was held Monday until the time of the service. Reverend Jason Blahnik officiated.

David J. Sauer

      David J. Sauer, 66, of Campbellsport, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, USA passed away at his home on Thursday 25 April 2013. David was born in West Bend, Washington County on 29 June 1946, son of Clarence and Martha Sauer. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Kilian Catholic Church and was a 1965 graduate of Kewaskum High School. Dave served his country in the United States Army from 11 May 1966 to 11 May 1968, serving 18 months in Europe as a mechanic with a rank of SP4. He also served two years in the Army Reserve as a weapons man. On 25 September 1971, he married Marie F. Cartus at Holy Angels in West Bend. Dave was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, the Campbellsport Knights of Columbus Council No. 1130, the Campbellsport Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8339, the Lomira American Legion Post 347, the Newburg AVA Chapter No. 448, and the West Bend Moose Lodge No. 1398. Dave worked at various manufacturing jobs with his last place of employment being Mills Fleet Farm in Fond du Lac where he was maintenance man for five years. He greeted most everyone he saw with a “hi or hello.”

David was survived by his son Robert of Campbellsport, his brother Dan (Sue) Sauer of Allenton, his sister Shirley (Lester) Simon of Campbellsport, his sister-in-law Kathy (Ron) Schlefke of Wisconsin Rapids, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Marie on 13 June 2007, his parents, sister-in-law and brother-inlaw Josephine and Norman Belhing, his niece Jessica Simon Abnet and nephew Scott Schlefke.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Sunday 28 April at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Campbellsport. Reverend Neil Zinthefer officiated. Burial with Military Honors was on Monday in St. Kilian Caztholic Cemetery, St. Kilian. Visitation was at the church.

Gerald R. Vetter

M, b. 13 August 1941, d. 28 April 2013
      Gerald R. Vetter, also known as Jerry, of Beechwood, passed away at the age of 71 years on Sunday, 28 April 2013 at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk with his family at his side. Gerald was born on 13 August 1941 in Sheboygan, son of Leland and Vivian (nee Staege) Vetter. On 29 July 1967, he was united in marriage to Carol Schladweiler at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michaels. Jerry served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott, the Kewaskum Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 and a former member of the Allenton Fohl-Martin American Legion Post 483. Jerry enjoyed golfing, deer hunting and spending time at the cabin up north. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. They meant everything to him. Jerry will be deeply missed by his wife, his family and by all who knew him.

Those Jerry leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 45 years, Carol; two children, Jerry (Christine) Vetter of Plymouth and Brenda (Dennis) Miller of Random Lake; five grandchildren, Wyatt Miller, Zachary and Lucas Vetter, and Taylor and Brady Ludvik; two brothers, Dennis (Jeanette) Vetter of Iron River and Dale Vetter of Beechwood; five sisters, Jeaneen (John) Kudek of Kewaskum, Gloria (Joseph) Boden of Black River Falls, Gelane (Carl) Firme of Sun Prairie, Elaine (Frank) Poos of Beechwood, and Diane (Jack) Jaeger of Campbellsport; two brothers-in-law, Harold (Kaye) Schladweiler and Jerome Jr. (Anita) Schladweiler both of Kewaskum; four sisters- in- law, Helen (Floyd) Kertscher of Armstrong, Mary (Timothy “Butch”) Vrana of West Bend, JoAnne (Greg) Arndt of Random Lake, and Joyce (Gary) Nelson of Plymouth; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded by his nephew, Joey Boden, and his beloved special canine friend, Boots.

Funeral services for Jerry were held on Thursday, 02 May at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott where Reverend Kurt Ziemann officiated. Following the service, military honor rites were performed by members of the Kewaskum American Legion Post 384. Burial was on Friday in the church cemetery.

The Vetter family greeted relatives and friends at the church on Thursday.

John H. Degner

      John H. Degner of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA passed away at Kathy Hospice at the age of 82 years on Monday, 20 August 2007. John was born on 27 September 1924, son of John and Minnie (nee Bratz) Degner. He honorably served his country with the United States Navy aboard the Intrepid during World War II. On 09 October 1948, he devoted his love and his life to Lorraine Eickstedt. John was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church in West Bend.

John was deeply missed by his loving wife and best friend, Lorraine; his dear son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Oleta Degner of New Mexico; three cherished grandchildren, Levi (Heather) Degner, Drew (Pam) Degner and Jory (Brian) Walker; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Alice Eickstedt and Hildegard Eickstedt.
He was also missed by niece, nephew, other special relatives and dear friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers-in-law, Norman and Walter Eickstedt.

A gathering of family and friends took place on Thursday, 23 August at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 809 South Sixth Avenue in West Bend, followed by a memorial service at the church. Interment took place at Zur Ruhe Cemetery in Cedarburg on Friday.

Seth E. Liebenstein

      Seth E. Liebenstein of Grafton, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA died at the age of 80 years on 10 March 2013. Seth was born on 29 September 1931. He was the beloved husband of Dorthea W. Amacher, also kmown as Dottie. Seth was the brother-in-law of Audrey Liebenstein and dear friend of Neil and Judy Thill. He was further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Seth served in the United State Marine Corps from 04 February 1943 to 13 December 1945. He worked for the United State Post Office in Grafton and was the Grafton Postmaster for 40 years.

Funeral service was held on Friday, 15 March at Christ Lutheran Church, N168 W20152 Main Street, Jackson, Wisconsin. Visitation was at the church on Friday. Interment was in Christ Lutheran Cemetery.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, 15 February at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1619 Washington Avenue, Grafton. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was at the church on Friday.

Paul Richard Weslow Sr.

M, b. circa 1932, d. 24 May 2013
      Paul Richard Weslow Sr. of Menomonee Falls, Waukesha County, Wiscomsin, USA was born to Eternal Life at the age of 81 years on 24 May 2013. Paul was the beloved husband of Shirley A. Rappl. He was the dear father of Karen (Steve) Berti, Donna (Dan) Murray, Paul, Jr. and Peter (Sue) Weslow. Also survived by grandchildren, great - grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends whom he loved dearly.

Paul was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Gross-Yaksh VFW Post 6498. He was a Master Plumber and a member of Plumber's Local 75. Paul sang with the Bel Canto Chorus. He was a longtime member of St. Anthony Church, in Menomonee Falls, where he sang in the choir and was an usher. Paul loved western movies, his Pabst Blue Ribbon and live plants.

Visitation was on Friday, 07 June at the Funeral Home with a Funeral Service at noon.

William D. McDonald

M, b. 24 April 1927, d. 29 April 2013
      William D. McDonald, also known as Mac, of Kewaskum, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA found peace and rest at the ageof 86 years on Monday, 29 April 2013. William was born on 24 April 1927 in Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, son of Edwin and Isabel (nee Pilgrim) McDonald. On 14 March 1953, he was united in marriage to Valera Kraus in Milwaukee. Mac served his country in the United States Army during World War II. William was a life-long member of the Kewaskum Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384, the Triple Eye Shrine, the Garfield Lodge and was a 32nd degree mason. Mac and Valera were the owners and operators of Rustic Inn in Kewaskum, and he was a single-engine pilot.

Those Mac leaves behind to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 60 years, Valera; a son, William (Diane) McDonald of the town of Sheboygan; three grandchildren, William D. McDonald III, Ashley E. McDonald and Mitchell P. McDonald; and other relatives, friends and customers. In addition to his parents, Mac was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen.

Funeral services for Mac were held on Thursday, 02 May 2013 at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum. Entombment was on Friday at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield. The McDonald family greeted relatives and friends on Thursday at the funeral home.

Donald A. Kirsch

M, b. 18 April 1924, d. 29 April 2013
      Donald A. Kirsch, also known as Don, of Slinger, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA passed away at the age of 71 years on Monday, 29 April 2013 in the comfort of his home with his loving wife after a six year battle with leukemia. Don was born on 18 April 1942, son of Clement and Edna (nee Schultz) Kirsch. He was united in marriage to Susan Wellhoefer on 09 April 1983 at Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in the town of Herman, Dodge County, where he was a faithful member. Don was a loving husband and father and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed driving anything with a motor and attending his children’s sporting events. Determined to always find a way, Don could often be found in his shop fixing anything and everything, including restoring his prized 1955 Ford F100 pickup truck (twice!) that he took to car shows throughout the summers as a member of Kirchhayn Cruisers Car Cub. Don was always willing to lend a helping hand. And even more than that, he would tell his latest jokes to bring a good laugh. Don was around trucks his entire life having worked for Olson Lumber Company and Luedtke Eliminator Tractor Pullers, and eventually starting his own trucking company D & S Express with his wife Sue putting on approximately 4 million miles! He also owned his own tavern, Kirsch’s Cherry Bar, in Allenton from 1969-1977. Don had joined the National Guard and Army after high school and served active duty with the 32nd Red Arrow Division at Fort Lewis, Washington during the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of the Allenton American Legion Post 483.

Donald was survived by his wife Susan of 30 years; children Connie Kirsch of Allenton, Candy Kirsch of West Bend, Jeff (Noelle) Kirsch of Sun Prairie, Amanda Kirsch of Evanston, Illinois, Joe Kirsch of Chicago, and Krysten Kirsch of Mequon; granddaughter Stephanie Kirsch and stepgranddaughter Kailey Kirsch; sister Grace (Dick) Heesen; brothers and sisters-in-law Werner Wolf, Carolyn Kirsch, Terry (Shirley) Wellhoefer, Harvey (Wendy) Wellhoefer Jr., and Joyce Wellhoefer. He was further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his parents Clement and Edna, father and mother-in-law Harvey and Lois Wellhoefer Sr., sister Carol Wolf, brother Jim Kirsch Sr., and his sister-in-law Lisa Wellhoefer.

Funeral services for Don was held on Saturday, 04 May 2013 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, (W630 Church Road and Highway 33) where Reverend Walter Oelhafen officiated. The family greeted relatives and friends on Friday, 03 May at the Shimon Funeral Home and on Saturday at the church. Interment took place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.

Harvey E. Beck

M, b. 16 July 1934, d. 27 April 2013
      A funeral service for Harvey E. Beck, of Grafton, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA was held on Saturday, 04 May 2013 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church South Mequon, 10001 North Cedarburg Road, Mequon. The visitation took place on Saturday at the church. Reverend Stanley Weinrich conducted the funeral service. Interment took place, immediately following the service, in the church cemetery, with full military honors. Harvey passed away at the age of 78 years at Lasata Care Center in Cedarburg on 27 April 2013.

Harvey was born in Saukville on 16 July 1934, son of Phillip Beck and Norma (nee Merten) Beck. He was graduated from Cedarburg High School in 1952, and shortly thereafter in June, joined the United States Navy. In July of 1955, Harvey was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Sherron (nee Treichel) Beck on 12 October 1957 at Shiloh Lutheran Church, in Milwaukee. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Terri and Todd. Harvey was employed by Carlson Tool and Die, in Cedarburg, where he worked as a machinist for over 30 years, until his retirement. He enjoyed boating, fishing, teaching children to water ski, taking his children to Pike Lake when they were younger and spending time with his family up north on their family vacations. Harvey had a love for fixing anything that he could get his hands on, and could be depended upon to fix anything correctly.

Harvey was survived by his children, Terri (Bill) Buchholz and Todd (Lori) Beck; grandchildren, Renee Buchholz, Matthew Buchholz, Austin Beck, Haley Beck, and Blake Beck; mother-in-law, LaVerne Treichel; sister-inlaw, Jill (Dennis) Walsh; brother-in-law, Jack Treichel; and special friends and neighbor, Floyd and Pat LaRocha. He was further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Sherron; his parents; sister, June Ehaney; father-in-law, Donald Treichel; and sister in- law, Nancy Treichel.

Roger W. McKenna

      Roger W. McKenna of Kewaskum, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA passed away at the age of 83 years on Tuesday, 30 April 2013 at Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. Roger was born in Random Lake on 04 December 1929, son of John and Verna (nee Kies) McKenna. On 31 October, 1959, he was united in marriage to Audrey Lamb at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Dacada. Audrey preceded Roger in death on 12 July 2006. He served his country in the United States Army from 1954-56. Roger was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School. He had a law practice in Kewaskum for nearly 40 years and provided legal services to clients even after retirement. Roger was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum and a member of the Kewaskum Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 and the St. Lawrence Seminary Parents Guild in Mt. Calvary.

Those Roger left behind to cherish his memory included four children, Patrick McKenna of West Bend, Michael McKenna of Jackson, Shawn McKenna of Milwaukee and Bridget (Patrick) Foley of Green Bay; a grandson, Matthew McKenna; a sister, Patricia TenPas of Plymouth; a sister- in-law, Ruth (Walter) McKenna of Random Lake; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Roger was preceded in death by a son, Brian John McKenna; a brother, Kenneth “Mac” McKenna and a brother-in-law, Clayton TenPas.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Roger was held on Friday, 03 May 3 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum. Military honor rites by members of the Kewaskum Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 followed Mass and burial was on Saturday in the parish cemetery. The McKenna family greeted relatives and friends at the church on Friday.

Henry W. Kempf

M, b. 22 June 1922, d. 30 April 2013
      Henry W. Kempf of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA passed away at the age of 90 years on Tuesday, 30 April 2013 at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk. Henry was born in the town of Kewaskum on 22 June 1922, son of Fred and Anna (nee Retzlaff) Kempf. On 31 August 1946, he was united in marriage to Joyce Dean at St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane. Joyce preceded Henry in death on 27 August 2008. He served his country in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. Henry had been selected to participate in the recent World War II Honor Flight but due to health issues was unable to attend. He was a charter member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in West Bend and a member of the West Bend Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1393. Henry owned and operated Henry Kempf Heating and Sheet Metal for many years.

Those Henry left behind to cherish his memory included five children, Diane (Robert) Swanson of West Bend, Sandra (Dr. Mark) Knutson of Dousman, Donna Roos of Fond du Lac, Terry (Sue) Kempf of Evansville and Christine (Glen) Soehrmann of Hubertus; 11 grandchildren, Timothy (Penny) Swanson, Wendy (Michael) Park, Paul (Alissa) Knutson, Amy (Scott) Goetzke, Sherry (Nathan) Downhour, Kim Knutson, Sarah Swanson, Andy Soehrmann, Kaitlyn Soehrmann, Keri Soehrmann and Alyssa Soehrmann; 11 great-grandchildren, Emily, Lorien and Tristan Swanson, Aaron, Daniel and Kara Park, Zachary and Alexander Downhour, and Everett, Preston and Griffin Henry Knutson; a brother in- law, Paul Dean of Kewaskum; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Henry was preceded in death by a son, Richard; a son-in-law, Eugene Roos; four sisters, Dorothy O’Krusch, Sadie Frank, Irene Uhlmann and Helen Bechler; and nine brothers, Otto, Hugo, Erwin, Rudolph, William, Paul, John, Edwin and Frederick Kempf.

Funeral services for Henry were held on Saturday, 04 May at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in West Bend. Reverend Christopher Raffa officiated and burial followed in Washington County Memorial Park in West Bend. The Kempf family greeted relatives and friends at the church on Saturday.

Raymond F. Melger

M, b. 01 December 1921, d. 02 May 2013
      Raymond F. Melger, also know as Ray, of Bridge Road in Cedarburg, previously of Sheboygan, passed away at the age of 91 years on Thursday morning, 02 May 2013, at Lasata Care Center in Cedarburg. Ray was born in the town of Schleswig on 01 December 1921, son of Frank and Christina (nee Schoenung) Melger. Following his schooling, he proudly served in the United States Army with the Military Police. Ray was united in marriage with Mildred Rohde at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sheboygan Falls on 25 September 1948. The couple settled in Sheboygan and started their family. Ray worked for Kohler Company before they moved to Cedarburg in 1956. He then worked for the city of Cedarburg Public Works Department for 13 years, and later became a lead person at Pioneer Container, retiring in 1984. Ray was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Cedarburg as well as a member of the Cedarburg Peter Wollner American Legion Post 288.

Raymond was survived by his wife, Mildred, of Cedarburg; and their three daughters, Nancy (David) Boivin of Jackson, Gail (Keith) Goetter of Cedarburg and Cindy (William) Hilgendorf of Hubertus. Further survivors include five grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Richter, Michael (Jennifer) Barth, Brian (Nicole) Goetter, Matthew (special friend Leslie) Hilgendorf and Angela (Andrew) Steffen; eight great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jordyn, Zakary, Kayleigh, Brady, Abby, Jacob and Natalie; sister-in-law, Zerlina Melger; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at noon on Saturday, 04 May at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church North, 1375 Covered Bridge Road, Cedarburg. Father Thomas Eichenberger officiated. Interment followed at Zur Ruhe Cemetery with military honors. The family received visitors at the church on Saturday.

Roy J. Meyer

M, b. 22 August 1924, d. 11 May 2013
      Roy J. Meyer of Jackson, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA went home to his Lord at the age of 88 years on Saturday, 11 May 2013 with his family by his side. Roy was born in Sheboygan on 22 August 1924, son of Christ and Mary (nee Nehrbass) Meyer. During World War II, Roy proudly served his country with the United States Army. Following his discharge, he returned to southeastern Wisconsin and later became employed at Briggs & Stratton in the Milwaukee area. After 38 years of faithful employment, he retired as a production supervisor. On 13 August 1949, Roy was s united in marriage to Mary Ellen Fischer in Saukville. In addition to being a loving husband, father and grandfather, Roy was an avid gardener and loved to fish, hunt, and travel.

Roy was survived by his beloved wife Mary; his cherished children Sandy Sella, Beverly, Daniel (Bonnie) and Dennis (Therese); grandchildren Robert (Nikki), Benji (Chelsey) and Josh; great-grandchildren Macey, Savannah and Spencer; a sister Ruth Roskopf; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a sister Doris (Orville) Klumb and a brother-in-law John Roskopf.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, 16 May at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, W172 N12533 Division Road, Germantown. Burial was on Friday in Washington County Memorial Park. The family greeted relatives and friends during a period of visitation at the church on Thursday.

Chester R. Smith

      Chester R. Smith of the Town of Jackson, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA went to meet the Lord at the age of 85 years on Monday, 13 May 2013, at Froedtert Health St. Joseph Hospital. Chester was born in Milwaukee on 06 November 1927, son of Frank and Clara (nee Krause) Smith. He served with the United States Navy. Following his discharge, he returned to Wisconsin. For 10 years, Chester was a peace officer for the town of Polk. He also worked for Russ Darrow Group as a mechanic, retiring after many years of loyal employment.

Chester was survived by one sister Marie Behling; one brother Ralph; niece and nephews Frank (Doris) Behling, Mary (Steve) Reisman and Allen (Suzanne) Behling; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Chester was preceded in death by one brother Harold Smith and one brother-in-law Edward Behling.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, 18 May at Frieden’s Cemetery, corners of County Road P and Cedar Creek Road, where Reverend James Hill officiated.

Bruce J. Anderle

M, b. 04 September 1936, d. 14 May 2013
      Bruce J. Anderle, longtime resident of Cedarburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA found peace at the agr of 76 years surrounded by his family on 14 May 2013 at Horizon Hospice, Mequon. Bruce was born in Milwaukee on 04 September 1936, son of Miles and Sylvia Anderle. After graduating from Cedarburg High School, Bruce attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison Campus and earned a degree in finance and business administration. While at Madison, he met his lifelong love of 54 years, Virginia Hoy. They married on 27 June 1959 and eventually settled in Cedarburg. After marriage, he proudly served his country in the Wisconsin National Guard as an officer. For 32 years, Bruce owned and operated a construction company in Cedarburg. He was dedicated to his career and passionate about his work. In his free time, he enjoyed photography, fishing, gardening, woodworking, reading and spending time with his family.

Bruce was survived by his wife, Virginia; and children, Lynn (James) Wagner, Laura Anderle-Smith, Michele (Joseph) Brown and Michael (Michelle) Anderle. He was a loving grandpa to Hannah and Spencer Rettler; Sam, Alex and Simon Brown; Gabriel and Isabelle Smith. He was further survived by his brother, Douglas (Mary) Anderle; aunt Ellen Doyle; his best friend, Larry (Charlotte) Hoffman; and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services, including military honors, were held Wednesday, 22 May at Faith Lutheran Church, N35 W6621 Wilson Avenue, Cedarburg. The family received friends at the church on Wednesday.

John Peter Braun

      John Peter Braun of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, died at the age of 81 years on Saturday, 25 May 2013. John was born in Fond du Lac on 08 October 1931, the only child of Martin and Gertrude (nee Meade) Braun. He spent his early years in Eden and was graduated from St. Mary Springs Academy in Fond du Lac with the class of 1949. John was also a graduate of the Fond du Lac Business College. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1951-55. On 05 November 1955, John was married to Lucille “Ceal” Kohlmann at Holy Cross Church in Mt. Calvary. He then attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. John and Ceal moved to West Bend when he became employed by the West Bend Company. He retired after 30 years in management positions. John was an active member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and was a past member of the parish council.

JohnPeter was survived by his wife of 57 years, Lucille and five children: Debra (Stan) Miske of West Bend, Claire (Scott) Kuechle of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kurt (Lori) of Lexington, Kentucky, Keith (Wendy) of West Bend and Paul (Pam) of Eau Claire. He was further survived by his grandchildren: Grace, Jennifer (Daniel), Rebecca, Sarah, Nicholas (Allyson), Joshua, Alison, Zachary, Madeline and Noah; his great - granddaughter Piper; and sisters-in-laws Dorothy (Jerome) Ditter and Regina Wiese. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Gertrude; his parents-in-law Felix and Clara Kohlmann and two brothers-in-law: Morris Wiese and Gordon Kohlmann.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, 29 May at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 1025 South Seventh Avenue in West Bend. Burial followed in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation took place at the Schmidt Funeral Home on Wednesday morning.

Stanley G. Klos

      Stanley G. Klos, also known as Stan, of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA passed away at the age of 79 years on Friday, 24 May 2013 at The Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk. Stan was born in Belgium, Ozaukee County on 19 July 1933, son of Nicholas and Catherine (nee Schueller) Klos. He graduated from Port Washington High School with the class of 1951. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1953-1955. On 07 April 1956, Stan was united in marriage to Mary Anne Freese in Port Washington. In 1958, they made their home in West Bend and Stan started working for Adelman Dry Cleaners in Milwaukee. He then spent many years working at Gessert’s True Value Hardware Store in Menomonee Falls, retiring in 1994. Stan was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in West Bend, and the Teamsters Local Union 344. Stan and Mary enjoyed boating and traveling during the winter months in their motor home to Arizona and Florida. Stan was an avid sports fan, especially Packer and Badger football.

Stan was survived by his wife, Mary of West Bend; three children, Mark (Patrice) Klos of West Bend, Debra (Paul) Stoffel of West Bend, and Scott (Laurie) Klos of Grafton; five grandchildren, Brandon (Emily) Klos, Katrina (Christopher) Anderson, Shaina Stoffel, Megan Klos, and Jenna Klos; a special great-granddaughter, Olivia Rose Anderson; two sisters, Harriet Tholl and Rita Goschey, both of Belgium; a brother-in-law, Jon (Marilyn) Freese of Williamsburg, Virginia; and other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law; four sisters, Elvira Hetzel, Lozelle Boesch, Alberta Carriveau and Camilla Hubing; three brothers, Norbert, Elroy and Quintin.

A Memorial Mass in remembrance of Stan was celebrated on Saturday at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church (1025 South Seventh Avenue, West Bend). Reverend Nathan Reesman was the presider. Visitation was at the church Saturday until the time of Mass. Inurnment was in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
