Emil Formella

Emil Formella of Neenah died at the age of 83 years on Tuesday, 15 January 2008 with his family by his side, at Franciscan Care Center in Appleton. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated for Emil on 21 January at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 324 Nicolet Boulevard in Menasha. Father Paul Radetski celebrated the Mass. Military rites were performed following the service. Friends called at the church on Monday prior to the Mass. Interment took place at St. Margaret Cemetery in Neenah.
Emil was born in Rosholt on 10 January 1925, son of Emil and Anna (nee Malek) Formella Jr. On 28 June 1947, Emil married Ethel M. Esson in Ashland. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage together. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Menasha. Emil was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II, having served with the 4th Marine Division in Iwo Jima, Saipan and the Marshall Islands. He was a life member of the Jackson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7240 - post commander from 1991-94, the Winnebago Detachment 357, Marine Corp League and the Jackson American Legion Post 486. He was a proud AA sponsor for 37 years and was an inspiration to many. He volunteered to help the homeless at King Veteran’s Home. Emil loved dancing with his wife, Ethel. The couple taught country line dancing at the Menasha Senior Center for 16 years. Emil also enjoyed rummage sales, recycling and animals, especially horses.

Robert H. Kuester

Robert H. Kuester Sr., also known as Bob, of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years on Wednesday, 16 January 2008 at the Samaritan Health Center in West Bend. Robert was born in West Bend on 20 October 1919, son of Herman and Lillian (nee Burckardt) Kuester. Bob was raised in downtown West Bend above his family’s automobile repair business, H.W. Kuester & Sons. Following his graduation from West Bend High School in 1937, Bob followed in his father’s footsteps and began working as a mechanic at his family’s business. A few years later World War II broke out and Bob enlisted in the Army National Guard. He served in the 32nd Division Army Band and was stationed in Australia and New Guinea. Upon his return home from the war, Bob was united in marriage to Audrey Schmidt. Audrey preceded him in death. On 26 November 1966, Bob was united in marriage to Mary Bisdee Clark at St. James Episcopal Church in West Bend. In 1987, Bob and Mary moved to Park Place Condominiums where he served as condo manager for 17 years. In his years as the manager of the condo, Bob was "Mr. Fix-it" for everyone in the condo building. Many of the female residents relied on Bob for everything from leaky faucets to cable TV and everything in between. Bob could always fix anything and everyone knew it. At age 80, Bob’s stepson gave him an outdated computer from his office. Bob immersed himself in learning everything he could about the computer and soon he had to upgrade and get high-speed internet access. Many people over the past eight years have been touched by Bob’s e-mails. Bob was also past governor of the West Bend Moose Lodge.
Robert was survived by his loving wife, Mary; his son, Robert Kuester Jr. of West Bend; and his two stepchildren, James (Jane) Clark of Mequon and Sally (Doug-las) Frisbey of Harbor Springs, Michigan. He was further survived by five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many other dear relatives and close friends.
A Mass of the Resurrection in honor of Bob was held on Thursday, 24 January at St. James Episcopal Church, corner of Eighth Avenue and Walnut Street in West Bend. Father Kevin Carroll was the celebrant. Visitation was on Thursday at the church until the time of Mass. Burial of Bob’s cremated remains was in the St. James Columbarium.

John H. Schoeder of Newburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin USA died at the age of 58 years on Friday, 25 January 2008 at SynergyHealth St. Joseph Hospital in the town of Polk. John was born in Port Washington on 30 January 1949, son of George and Irmgard (nee Diels) Schoeder. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. Following his discharge he settled in Port Washington and for many years worked at Jadair Inc.
John was survived by his three children, Jeff, Serena and Dustin, and two grandchildren, Alexis and Vincent. He was further survived by his girlfriend, Janice Fink of Newburg; his brothers and sisters, Donald (Donna) of Holy Cross, Judy (Orv) Erickson of West Bend, James (Mary Lu) of Tomahawk, Mary Wagner of Eagle River, George (Donna) of West Bend and Doreen (Joe) Kritz of Eagle River; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Ronald and Richard.

John W. Morrell passed away at the age of 88 years on Sunday, 27 January 2008 at Samaritan Health Center in West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA. John was born in Marinette on 02 June 1919, son of Joseph and Emelia (nee Dausey) Morrell. He was raised in Menominee, Michigan and graduated from Menominee High School in 1939. After high school, he served in the United States Army during World War II. During the Battle of Bulge, he was awarded the Purple Heart with a Bronze Star. Upon his honorable discharge, John moved to Milwaukee where he married Norine Krueger on 08 October 1949. He was a floor layer and carpenter and a member of Carpenters Union Local 264 of Milwaukee. John was also a member of The Moose Lodge of West Allis and a very active member of Pilgrim Congregational Church of Milwaukee. He enjoyed gardening, lawn bowling, dartball and watching all sports and was a member of Lake Park Lawn Bowling Club.
John was survived by his loving wife, Norine; his children, Raymond (Barbara) Morrell, Cathleen Lambries, Patricia Morrell, Christine (John) Brannigan, Maureen (Keith) Miller, and seven grandchildren. He was further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. John was preceded in death by eight siblings.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, 29 January at Wisconsin Memorial Park Family Center of Brookfield. Visitation with family and friends was at the Family Center on Tuesday. Interment was immediately follow the service.

Lloyd A. Koch of Kewaskum, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA passed on at the age of 82 years at his home on Sunday, 27 January 2008. Lloyd was born in Mosinee on 07 July 1925, son of Henry and Beulah Koch. On 11 February 1950, he was united in marriage to Ellen Willwohl in Bad Homberg, Germany while he was serving in the United States Army. Ellen preceded Lloyd in death on 25 September 2007. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. Lloyd was retired from the U.S. Post Office and was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michaels.

George F. Kohlwey of Saukville passed away peacefully at the age of 87 years on Monday, 28 January 2008 at Cedar Community in West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA. Funeral services were held on 02 February at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 Washington Street in Grafton. Visitation was held at the church on Saturday prior to the service. Interment took place at the church cemetery.
George was born in Cedarburg on 29 October 1920, son of George H. and Anna (nee Behrens) Kohlwey. He married Shirley Kegler on 19 April 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. George served in the United States Army from 1942-47 and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a longtime active member at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton serving as chairman of St. Paul for five years, elder for six years and president of the Fellowship Club for many years. He also served on the board for youth ministry and visited members through the evangelism program. George was president of AAL Branch 229 for 28 years. He was a member of Saukville American Legion Post 470, Disabled American Vets, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Farm Bureau. He farmed most of his life and worked as a welder at Grob in Grafton.
George was survived by his wife Shirley of Saukville; his children Judy (Wayne) Wolff of Grafton, Daniel (Carol) of Grafton, Doug (Betty) of Adell, Debra (Leon) Herther of West Bend and Cynthia (Robert) Roden of West Bend; his brother Ruben (Evelyn); his sisters Anita Eulert, Florence (Gerald) Rathke and Renata (Kenneth) Rappold; and his sister-in-law Lillian Kohlwey. He was further survived by 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. George was preceded in death by his brothers Walter and Benoit; and his sisters Georgiana Rettmann, Esther Koeller and Eleonora Dobberfuhl.

Funeral services will be held for Ardis Estes Cordts of Grafton, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA on 01 February at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 Washington Street in Grafton. Ardis died at the age of 90 years on Monday, 28 January 2008 after a long illness. Visitation was held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Friday prior to the funeral service. Ardis was born to parents Walter and Effa (nee Edwards) Estes on 29 October 1917 in Moore, Montana. After graduation from Moore High School in 1935, Ardis worked as a secretary in Great Falls, Montana and in San Francisco, California. It was in San Francisco that she joined the United States Army as a WAC, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. After military service, Ardis attended the University of Montana under the GI Bill, graduating in 1950. It was at the university that she met Howard Cordts, and they were married in Lewiston, Montana on 28 August 1950. Ardis had a passion for writing and spent many hours at her desk. She had many articles published and wrote a book about her son Michael. Ardis also loved to sing and had an excellent voice. She sang in the choir at St. Paul Lutheran Church for over 35 years.
Ardis was the beloved wife of Howard and the loving sweet mother of Shirley, and was especially missed and never forgotten by them. She was further survived by other relatives and many friends who will also remember and miss her. Ardis was preceded in death by her son Michael and her three brothers and three sisters.

Ed passed away at the age of 93 years in Mahtomedi, Minnesota on 31 July 2013. He was born in Milwaukee on 05 October 1919, son of Edgar and Elsie (nee Krantz) Rappold. Ed was united in marriage to Alda Rappold on 02 August 1941, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Gail and Lynn. In May of 1944, Ed was inducted into the United States Army Air Corps and served his country until March of 1946. Ed was very active throughout the Cedarburg community. He was a charter member at Faith Lutheran Church, he served on the city council for many years, he was a member of the Cedarburg Rose Harms American Legion Post 288, and he was a member of the Cedarburg Fire Department for more than 65 years.

His family moved to Door County in his early years and he attended Lakeview Elementary School in the town of Clay Banks and Algoma High School. He then worked at the Christy Shipbuilding Corporation in Sturgeon Bay building and repairing the Badger and Spartan car ferries. He served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division from Fort Bragg, North Carolina from 1955-1957 and he was stationed in Germany for one of those years.
Don married Dolores Weitermann on 13 July 1957 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. They moved to Milwaukee in 1960 and he worked at Briggs & Stratton Corporation and then did construction work for Local 24 Sheet Metal Construction Union and the Pabst Brewery. He retired in 1994. Don enjoyed many activities including deer hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, country dancing and traveling to many areas of the United States, Canada, Mexico and abroad. Later in life, many serious health conditions limited his activities from 1994 until the time of his death.
Donald was survived by his wife of 56 years, Dolores; a daughter, Cynthia (Paul) Gagan of Jackson; two grandchildren, Carlie (Tom) Weber of West Bend and Kyle (fiancée Christy McCutcheon) Gagan of West Bend; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Luke Weber; a sister, Donna (Dale) Marsh of Sturgeon Bay; two brothers, Richard (Colleen) Cornette of Sturgeon Bay and Milton (Marlene) Cornette of Greenleaf; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marianne Beamer.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, 07 August at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 138 North Eighth Avenue in West Bend. Visitation was at the church on Wednesday prior to the Mass. Interment took place in Washington County Memorial Park in West Bend.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, 14 August 2013 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Freistadt, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA, 10729 West Freistadt Road, for Otto Carl Conrad of Cedarburg. Otto died at the age of 91 years on Sunday, 11 August 2013 at Horizon Hospice from natural causes. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Visitation was at the church on Wednesday.

Walter E. Gross, also known as Wally, was called to his eternal heavenly home at the age of 88 years on 13 July 2013. Walter was born on 07 May 1925. He was the loving husband of 64 years to Janet and proud father to children Sally Maki, Robert Gross, Cindy (Rev. Mark) Cordes and Walter (Beth) Gross. Walter was l loved by 13 wonderful grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren. He was survived by his beloved sisters Ruth Knackert and Jeanette Frank.

He was the beloved husband of Jean Keeler and loving father of Jeffrey (special friend Donna), Daniel (Donna) and Lori (James) Gallagher. Marvin was the proud grandpa of Rebecca (Chris) McGrath, Renee (Tom) O'Day, Jay (Sarah) Schneider and Joshua, Anne and Rachel Gallagher; dear great-grandpa of Ellie, Jackson, Tommy and Will. He was preceded in death by his siblings Willard "Pat", Virginia, Ardell, Ioan and Lois. He was further survived by other relatives and friends.

Committal prayer was on Friday from the funeral home to Wood National Cemetery.

Ralph F. Smith of Hartford, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, formerly of the town of Jackson, died at the age of 82 years on Monday, 12 August 2013, at Emerald Ridge Assisted Living. Ralph was born in Milwaukee on 10 March 1931, son of Frank and Clara (nee Krause) Smith. During the Korean Conflict, he served with the United States Army in Korea. Following his discharge, he returned to Wisconsin. For many years, he worked as a mechanic with the Russ Darrow Group and also assisted in preparing vehicles for customers. He was a member of the Jackson S/Sgt Henry F. Gumm American Legion Post 486.
Ralpj was survived by one sister, Marie Behling; niece and nephews Frank (Doris) Behling, Mary (Steve) Reisman and Allen (Suzanne) Behling; and other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Chester, and one brother-in-law, Edward Behling.

Ronald L. Smith, also known as Ron, of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA passed away at the age of 75 years on Tuesday, 13 August 2013, at his home after a six-month battle with cancer. Ronald was born in Sheboygan on 30 October 1937, son of James and Rose (nee Ardts-Parman) Smith. Ron was graduated from Central High School, Sheboygan, in the class of 1955. He then served in the United States Army from 1956-58 and was stationed in Germany. Ronald worked as a sheet metal journeyman for many years and was employed by Ted Kuck Company and Aldag Sheet Metal in Sheboygan and later was employed as a shop foreman at Zien Plumbing and Heating in Milwaukee, until retiring in 2000. Ron was united in marriage to Mary Johnson on 10 September 1960 at St. Dominic’s Parish in Sheboygan. Mary passed away in 1991. He then was united in marriage to Carol Cook-Steinmetz of West Bend on 23 October 1993 at Immaculate Conception Parish in Sheboygan. Following their marriage, Ron and Carol lived in West Bend.
Ron was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Parish in West Bend and Sheet Metal Workers Union Local No. 18. He enjoyed collecting model cars, going to car shows, and golfing in the Wednesday Men’s League at Arrowhead Golf Course. Ron especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, concerts and recitals.

He was the beloved husband for 66 years of Catherine Eisenman and loving father of David (Jean), James (Sheryll), Susan (John) O'Leary, Peter (Cheryl), Karen (Vito) Lucido, Robert (Dawn), Charlene (Kazuki) Takeuchi, Patrick (Kathleen) and Michele (Eric) Severson; proud grandfather of 26 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Charles served for 3 years in the United State Army Corp of Engineers during WWII, graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Campus and retired as Vice-President of Human Resources at A.O. Smith Corporation. He was blessed with a sense of humor and a love of beauty and nature. Charlie was a respected businessman; but most of all, he was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather who centered his life on family and faith.
Visitation was held at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown (W204 N11940 Goldendale Road) on Tuesday, 20 August until the time of Mass of Christian Burial. Burial took place on a future date at St. Mary Cemetery in Marathon, Wisconsin. Charles' intelligence, humor and guiding hand will be greatly missed.

Louis was held in high regard for being a test driver for new prototype motorcycles and as a mechanic. He also owned Karl and Louie’s Motorcycles in Allenton for five years. Louis was a longtime member of First Immanuel Church in Cedarburg.

Jim F. Thierfelder

Jim F. Thierfelder of Jackson, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA went home to his heavenly father at the age of 61 years on Friday, 01 February 2008 surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services for Jim were held on 05 February 2008 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of West Mequon, 11458 North Wauwatosa Road in Mequon. The Reverend Ken Kolberg officiated the service. Visitation was held at the church prior to the service.
Jim was born in Milwaukee on 22 February 1946, son of Hillard and Bernice (nee Wendt) Thierfelder. A resident of Mequon, Jim attended area schools, was graduated from Homestead High School in 1964. He was united in marriage to Judy Wolfgang in Mequon on 16 October 1965. On 25 January 1968[?], Jim entered the United States Army and served in Panama. Following his discharge on 18 February 1966[?], he returned to Mequon. While working as an electrician, Jim was employed by Mequon Electric and then by Meer Electric until his retirement in July of 2003. For most of his life, he was a devoted member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of West Mequon. Jim enjoyed hunting and trapshooting at the Ozaukee County Fish and Game.

Jim was born in Milwaukee on 22 February 1946, son of Hillard and Bernice (nee Wendt) Thierfelder. A resident of Mequon, Jim attended area schools, was graduated from Homestead High School in 1964. He was united in marriage to Judy Wolfgang in Mequon on 16 October 1965. On 25 January 1968[?], Jim entered the United States Army and served in Panama. Following his discharge on 18 February 1966[?], he returned to Mequon. While working as an electrician, Jim was employed by Mequon Electric and then by Meer Electric until his retirement in July of 2003. For most of his life, he was a devoted member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of West Mequon. Jim enjoyed hunting and trapshooting at the Ozaukee County Fish and Game.

Charles J. Doll

Charles J. Doll, also known as Charlie, of Allenton, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA passed away at the age of 66 years on Monday, 26 August 2013 at the Aurora Medical Center in Hartford. Charles was born in West Bend on 19 April 1947, son of Arthur and Olive (nee Wenninger) Doll. His family farmed in the town of Addison. Charlie attended Slinger High School, graduating in the class of 1965. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served with honor in Vietnam. On 10 June 1967, Charlie was united in marriage to Jean Calkins at the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Allenton. Charlie was a tool maker at Maysteel Corporation in Allenton until retiring in 2012. He was a member of the Sky Ranch Flyers of West Bend. Chrlie was an avid bicycle rider and enjoyed his motorcycling as well. He enjoyed helping others and could fix almost anything. Charlie even invented and made tools to help him fix things. The real thrill of his life was taking the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in August.

Leonard J. Hildebrand

Leonard J. Hildebrand, also know as Len, passed away at the age of 79 years on Monday, 04 February 2008 at the Samaritan Health Center in West Bend. Leonard was born in Sheboygan on 02 February 1929, son of John and Marie (nee Smith) Hildebrand. His mother passed away from cancer when Len was quite young and his father married Delores Dries. Len grew up in Sheboygan Falls. He loved football and played on his high school football and track teams. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy and served from 1948-1952. Len achieved the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He married Marge Sprenkle Lauer in Milwaukee in May of 1954. They had a son, Mark Allen who passed away early in his twenties. He married Joyce Ruffing Eisentraut in June of 1963 and instantly became the parent of Bill and Dawn. Len was a machinist for 38 years, serving his apprenticeship at Kearney and Trecker Corp. He worked at various locations through the years including Chrysler Outboard, Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (LASL), Barton Products and retired in 1994 at Enerpack in Butler. Len was involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters. He taught religious education classes for several years at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in West Bend and was very active in the church throughout the years. After retirement, he kept quite busy working part time at Fleet Farm, Stein Gardens and for Washington County doing odd jobs. Len was diagnosed shortly after with Alzheimer’s Disease. His hobbies included sketching, painting, woodworking, hunting and fishing. Len loved his walks through the outdoors and enjoyed the peacefulness of nature. He always looked forward to his fishing trips to Canada with his brother.

Gordon D. Johnson

Gordon D. Johnson, also known as Gordie, of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA passed away at the age of 60 years on Monday, 04 February 2008 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. Gordie was born in Adrian, Minnesota on 15 May 1947, son of Marlis and Bernadene (nee Meinders) Johnson. He was raised in Rushmore, Minnesota and graduated from Adrian High School in Adrian in 1965. After graduation, Gordie worked in the tool and die industry until he volunteered for the United States Army in 1967. He served in Vietnam until 1969 and received many honors and medals as a marksman. After his returned from the service, Gordie moved to Wisconsin to marry the love of his life, Bonnie Hebig. They were married on 27 February 1971 in West Bend, and resided there ever since. Gordie owned his own welding company for several years prior to going to work for ALBO Corporation, and was always known to be a very skilled welder. He loved golfing, fishing, bowling, playing pool, playing music and spending time with his family and friends. Gordie was also an active member of the West Bend Fred A. Schaefer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1393.
Gordon was survived by his wife, Bonnie; his daughter, Jeanna (Michael) Desmond of Milwaukee; his son, Jeffrey Johnson (girlfriend Karri Zwicker) of West Bend; and his precious granddaughter, Emily Desmond. He was further survived by his sister, Janice (Hans) Remmers of Dundee, Minnesota; a brother, Randy (Carol) Johnson of Rushmore, Minnesota; a sister, Marcia (Joe) Mauch of Adrian; his in-laws, Lyman Winge, David (Glenda) Hebig, Karen (Howie) Gruen, Dennis (Barb) Hebig, Dean Hebig, Gail (Curt) Heronimus and Donald (Dawn) Hebig; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Richard B. Kelley, also known as Dick, of the town of Grafton, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA passed away at 85 years of age at his residence on Tuesday morning, 05 February 2008. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated for Dick on 09 February by Father Stephen Lampe at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton. The family received visitors at the church on Saturday prior to the service. Dick was laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Mequon.
Dick was born in Oconomowoc on 05 April 1922, son of Richard and Mary (nee McConville) Kelley. After serving with the United States Army during World War II, Dick was united in marriage with Jean Dorrow at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Milwaukee. The couple raised six children together. Jean preceded Richard in death in 1996. On 26 August, 2000, Dick married Ruth "Cookie" Czerwinski at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton. He was employed by AT&T/ Ameritech as a field man doing cable distribution for 37 years. A longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton, he was also a member of the Grafton Rose-Harms American Legion Post 355 for 50-plus years and the AT&T retiree group, the Pioneers. Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, going up north and socializing with friends. He was well known for his good sense of humor.

Robert E. Eernisse

Robert E. Eernisse, also known as Rube an Bob, of Grafton, passed away at the age of 91 years on Tuesday, 27 August 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born in Grafton on 20 July 1922, son of Oscar and Viola (nee Staewin) Eernisse. After graduating from Grafton High School, Bob served his country with the United States Navy as a Seabee in World War II. On 17 April 1945, he married Marvelle Hilgart at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton. Marvelle preceded Robert in death in 2012. Bob was an avid athlete, active in basketball, baseball, boxing, volleyball and bowling. He was an all-star pitcher for Land O’ Lakes baseball for many years. He also played softball for the Grafton Bowl team until he was 80 years old. Rube had a passion for baseball and was able to attend Milwaukee Brewers spring training in Arizona the past three years with his family. Bob worked as a material handler for Simplicity Manufacturing in Port Washington for 25 years, retiring in 1987. Rube was a 59-year member of the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department where he was the village of Grafton fire inspector for over 20 years. The fire department was a very important part of his life. He enjoyed the camaraderie and brotherhood that the department afforded. Bob was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Grafton Rose-Harms American Legion Post 355 and the Grafton-Cedarburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10171.
Robert was survived by his seven children, Lynn Mary Holzer of Grafton, William (Nadine) of Grafton, Bruce “Virgil” (Janice) of Cleveland, Tennessee, Brian (Becky) of Oostburg, Laurie (David) Schwalbe of Grafton, Lee Anne Reif of Grafton and Lisa (Randy) Mueller of Saukville; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; his sister, Ruth (Clarence) Fiedler of Hartford; his brother. Captain Paul Gardner Hayden USN (Retired)

Captain. Paul Gardner Hayden, USN (Ret.), also known Grady, died after a brief illness at the age of 93 years in Mequon, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA on Saturday, 24 August 2013. Paul was born in Green Bay on 12 August 1920, son of Gardner and Harriet (nee Edwards) Hayden. Gardy attended St. John’s Grade School and Green Bay East High School. He was active in football, basketball and track. Gardy spent two years at Lawrence University in Appleton studying chemistry. In 1940, the United States Navy wanted men with at least two years of college for commissioned officers so Gardy enlisted at the age of 19. Gardy spent most of his career on the Destroyer USS Sterett and later the Destroyer USS Cimarron. He was in the battle of Guadalcanal and Tulagi in “Iron Bottom Sound.” Gardy served almost seven years of active duty and retired from the Navy in 1960 after receiving medals from the Pacific, African and Atlantic theatres.
Gardy returned to college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1950. Upon graduation, Gardy began work at Northern Paper Mills in Green Bay as a chemist. That same year, Gardy married Maxine (nee Hanna) and they lived in Green Bay. In 1951, Gardy joined Milprint in DePere as a product development chemist, was promoted to plant manager in 1960 and manager of Manufacturing Midwest Division in Milwaukee in 1970. Gardy’s family then moved to Grafton, where they lived for eight years. In 1978, Gardy and his family moved to Winfield, Illinois, so Gardy could accept a job at Meyercord in Carol Stream, Illinois. Gardy officially retired in 1984 and relocated to La Jolla, California, after 24 years of service. In 2009, Gardy came back to Grafton to live with his daughter, Julie, and family.
Paul was survived by his son, Paul (Betty) Hayden of Evansville, Indiana; and their children, Jasmine, John and Jacob; and granddaughter, Kiernan; daughter, Julie (Scott) Gramoll of Grafton, and their daughters Molly and Sara Gramoll, who so enjoyed their four years of Papa living with them. He was further survived by other relatives and friends. Maxine preceded Gardy in death in October of 2002. His parents; daughter, Chrissy Mary; granddaughter, Melissa Gramoll; and brother John Hayden also preceded Gardy in death.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, 07 September at Fort Howard Memorial Park, 1350 North Military Avenue, Green Bay followed by full military honors. A memorial gathering was held at the mausoleum chapel.

Gardy returned to college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1950. Upon graduation, Gardy began work at Northern Paper Mills in Green Bay as a chemist. That same year, Gardy married Maxine (nee Hanna) and they lived in Green Bay. In 1951, Gardy joined Milprint in DePere as a product development chemist, was promoted to plant manager in 1960 and manager of Manufacturing Midwest Division in Milwaukee in 1970. Gardy’s family then moved to Grafton, where they lived for eight years. In 1978, Gardy and his family moved to Winfield, Illinois, so Gardy could accept a job at Meyercord in Carol Stream, Illinois. Gardy officially retired in 1984 and relocated to La Jolla, California, after 24 years of service. In 2009, Gardy came back to Grafton to live with his daughter, Julie, and family.
Paul was survived by his son, Paul (Betty) Hayden of Evansville, Indiana; and their children, Jasmine, John and Jacob; and granddaughter, Kiernan; daughter, Julie (Scott) Gramoll of Grafton, and their daughters Molly and Sara Gramoll, who so enjoyed their four years of Papa living with them. He was further survived by other relatives and friends. Maxine preceded Gardy in death in October of 2002.
