      Larry D. Buchanan of Theresa, Dodge County, Wisconsin, formerly of West Bend, Washington County, died at the age of 50 years on Saturday 15 January 2000 at Hartford Memorial Hospital, Hartford. He was born 25 April 1949 in Newark, Ohio, to George Buchaanan and Esther English. Following high school, he entered the Uunited States Army where he was stationed in Germany. After his discharge he worked as a heating and air conditioning technician. Larry loved to travel as a musician and was an avid fisherman. A memorial service was held on Monday 17 January at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend. Reverend Jeffrey Schimp officiated at the services.

John was born in Hartford, Washington County on 19 September 1926 to Werner Lieven and Kathryn Dietzler. He was the husband of Elizabeth Bertz and the father of two children. Visitation was on Saturday 20 March at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1619 Washington Street in Grafton. Interment was at Old St. Kilian Cemetery in Hartford. John retired from Power Products in Grafton and as Senior Manufacturing Engineer from Poulan-Weed Eater in Nashville, Arkansas. He was a veteran of WWII, a member of the American Legion and VFW and St. Bernard Parish, Bella Vista.

      Donald H. Malchow of Slinger, Washington County, Wisconsin passed away Friday 02 July 2004 at Aurora Medical Center in Hartford at the age of 68 years. He was born 16 June 1936 in Randolph, Columbia County to Harry Malchow and Agnes Weistioff. Donald married Myrtle Sturm 30 May 1967 at Peace Lutheran Church in Hartford. He retired from the Trek Bicycle Company after 21 years of service. He drove Wittenberger school bus for the Hartford School District. Donald was a member the West Bend HOG Chapter and loved to ride his Harley. He was a member of the Allenton American Legion Fohl-Martil Post 438 and Slinger VFW Zunker-Held Post 3358. He was the father of three children. Donald was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle in 1998, by his parents, his brothers Lloyd, Earl and Harry, Jr., and by his sister Jo Ann Wagner. Memorial service was held on Friday, 09 July at St. Lukes Lutheran Church located at 4860 Arthur Road in Slinger. Reverend. Richard F. Lawrence officiated at the service. Burial with military honors was on Saturday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

      Earl E. Pflughoeft of Hartford, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA found peace at the of 82 yers on Saturday 15 August 15 2009 at Hartford Memorial Hospital. Earl was born on 06 June 1927 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County to Alfred Pflughoeft and Norma Sponholtz. He married Louise Nielsen on 09 September 1950 at St. Marcus Church in Milwaukee. Earl was member of VFW Runge-Graham Post 1691 in Milwaukee and American Legion Courtney-Carr-Milner Post 19 in Hartford. Earl worked at Arandell Corporation in Menomonee Falls, Waukesha County for 42 years. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, bowling and golf. Earl was survived by his wife of 58 years Louise and their two children. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Keith. Funeral services for Earl were held on Wednesday 19 August at Peace Lutheran Church located at 1001 Center Street in Hartford. Pastor Jonathan Munson officiated at the service. Interment followed on Thursday, 20 August 2009 at Graceland Cemetery at 6401 North 43rd Street in Milwaukee.

Laurence Schneider

      Laurence Schneider, longtime resident of Jackson, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA went to his eternal home on Tuesday, 18 November 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital in West Bend. Lawrence was born 90 years earlier on 18 July 1918 to Ignatius and Erna Schneider in the town of Richfield. He graduated from West Bend High School in 1936. On 07 September 1940, he married Dorothy Louise Frank of Jackson. Lawrencep served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific and became a charter member of the Jackson S/Sgt. Henry F. Gumm American Legion Post 486 where he was a member for 63 years. He also belonged to the Jackson Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 7240. From 1946 until 1976, Lawrence and Dorothy managed the Jackson Hotel and Tavern. Following, and until retirement in 1984, they owned and operated the Jackson Motel, which they built. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary before Dorothy’s death in 2003. He took much pride in Jackson and readily volunteered his help for community betterment projects. For 13 years, he served as a Cub Scouts committeeman. He won the Jackson Area Business Association Man of the Year Award twice, in 1978 and 1993.

In retirement, Lawrence turned his talents to building quality doll houses, many of which he donated for fundraising projects for Action in Jackson and for his church. For his entire life he was a devoted member of St. Bonface Catholic Church in Germantown where he rarely missed a Sunday. For the past four years he lived at Cedar Bay West. Lawrence loved big gatherings at his house on the holidays. He rooted fervently for the Brewers through thick and thin, and he enjoyed the many friends he made during his long business career. He is survived by two daughters. Preceding him in death were his wife, Dorothy, son Steve, and granddaughter Monica Protsman. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, 22 November 2008 St. Boniface Catholic Church on Goldendale Road in Germantown. Reverend Todd Budde celebrated the Mass. Burial followed in Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Jackson. The Jackson Staff Sergeant Henry F. Gumm American Legion Post 486 provided an Honor Guard.

John C. Weinberger

      John C. Weinberger of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA died on Tuesday, 11 November 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital. John was born 85 years earlier on 22 June 1923 in Leroy, Dodge County to Henry Weinberger and Bernadette A. Koch. When John was a child, the family moved to Mayville where he attended local schools. In 2000 he was awarded his diploma from Mayville High School through a Wisconsin state program that awards high school diplomas to veterans who left high school early to enlist in the United States military. In February of 1941, John enlisted in the United States Navy. Following his initial training, he was stationed at the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, where he was on 07 December 1941. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following his discharge, he returned to Wisconsin settling in the West Bend area. He was employed at The West Bend Company working in various departments, including shipping and receiving, maintenance and as an electrician. On 09 April 1947, he was united in marriage to Jeanette K. Beistle at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Allenton, Washington County. Jeanette died on 08 October 1997. Following his retirement in 1983, he engaged in many activities including golf, designing and making stained glass art, chair caning and travel. He traveled to Europe, visited many different places in the United States and returned to Hawaii on many occasions. He was a frequent participant in the reunions of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and of the gatherings that took place for those who served aboard the USS Whitney AD-4. He was a member of the 25 Year Club at The West Bend Company, the Father Casper Rehrl Council 1964 Knights of Columbus, where he was a Fourth Degree Knight, the Allenton Fohl-Martin American Legion Post 483 and the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. John was survived by three children. He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, Mary, Eugenia Oehman, Margaret, Henry, Joseph and Anna Zimmer. A Mass of Christian burial was held at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend at which Father Gerald Brittain presided. Burial followed on Saturday in Holy Angels Cemetery in West Bend.

Ronald served 11 years in the United States Navy and 11 years in the Air Force National Guard. He managed the Veterans of Foreign Wars Club House in West Bend before retiring. Ronald loved playing golf, spending time with his friends, and his involvement with all the activities at the VFW Club House. He was a member of the Hartford Courtney-Carr-Milner American Legion Post 19. A Memorial service was held on Saturday at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Harold Mapes officiating. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Newburg, Washington County.

      Charles L. Shortt of Hartford, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA passed away on Tuesday, 25 November 2008 at Angels Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc, Waukesha County after a short illness. Charles was born 78 years previous on 09 June 1930 in Pound, Wise County, Virginia to Grover Shortt and Edith Tompkins. He was united in marriage to Shirley Connell on 12 September 1955 in Tennessee. Charles worked for the city of Hartford, retiring in 1994. He also served as an alderman in Hartford for nine years. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a member of Hartford Courtney-Carr-Milner American Legion Post 19. He was a lifetime member of the Neosho-Horicon-Mayville Masonic Lodge 108, the Scottish Rite, and the Tripoli Shrine Temple. He was a member of St. Aidan Episcopal Church in Hartford. Charles loved old Western movies and visiting his childhood home in the mountains of Virginia. He dearly loved his family and friends and was always willing to lend an ear or a helping hand to anyone. He was survived by his wife Shirleyand their son and daughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Michael and one daughter Lynn Kauper. Funeral services were held on Saturday at St. Aidan Episcopal Church located at 670 East Monroe Street in Hartford. Father Gary Lambert officiated at the service.

Jerome Judes

      Jerome "Jerry" Judes of Eagle, Waukesha County, Wisconsin was born to Eternal Life at the age of 90 years on Friday, 19 March 2010 at East Troy Manor. He was born in Germantown, Washington County to Arthur Judes and Lillian Kemmer. Jerome was united in marriage to Eileen Jones on 10 May 1947 in West Allis, Milwaukee County. He was the first Chief of Police in Eagle, serving from 1947-1949. Jerome proudly served in the United States Army during WW II in Germany and Europe. He was a member of the Eagle American Legion Post 535, a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church since 1936, and was known to never stop working. Jerry was survived by his wife Eileen of 62 years and their two children. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, 25 March 2010 at St. Theresa Catholic Church aqt 136 Waukesha Road in Eagle which Father Dennis Ackeret officiated. Burial followed at St. Theresa Catholic Cemetery with military honors.

James volunteered with the United States Coast Guard and faithfully served his country for four years with an honorable discharge in 1969. He married Alice A. Weasler on 02 May 1970 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Slinger. After their marriage, the couple lived in Slinger. James was employed at Amity Leather Company in West Bend for 28 years in the maintenance area. He later worked for Weasler Engineering in that same city for five years. He was a member of the West Bend American Legion Lt. Ray Dickop Post 36. James was survived by his wife Alice. He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Arthur and Charlotte Weasler. A memorial service was held on Friday, 26 February 2010 at his residence. Interment of Ashes took place at Washington County Memorial Park with full military honors.

Visitation was on Tuesday, 08 June at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 6709 West Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, USA. Funeral Service was held that day in the evening. Interment was at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Milwaukee.

Norbert J. Griffin

      Norbert J. Griffin died of congestive heart failure at the age of 93 years on 18 October 2009 at the Froedert Memorial Lutheran Hospital. Norbert was born on 06 December 1916 and was raised in Jefferson, Jefferson Countgy, Wisconsin, USA to Raymond Griffin and Marcella Seeber. He first learned shorthand in high school, winning a Gregg Expert Medal for passing the speed of 140 words per minute. By 1941, he was working with the 12th Judicial Circuit Court, which included Washington, Ozaukee, Dodge and Waukesha Counties, mostly in Washington County. In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy. "When a personnel officer noticed Coley was a court reporter, Coley skipped boot camp and was reporting a court-martial case his second day in the Navy," the Wisconsin Reporter stated. Pen in hand, Norbert served for the next four years. He worked up until he was 86, driving from West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin to Juneau in Dodge County a couple days a week to report cases for the reserve judges. His real retirement came in 2003, after 68 years in courtrooms. Norbert was the last Gregg Shorthand court reporter in Wisconsin. He was found to take shorthand at 260 words per minute. His wife, the former Anne Snyder, died in 1998. He was survived by one daughter and one son. Preceeding him in death was his parents, his wife, his sister Margaret Torgeson, brothers Howard and Ray, sons Kevin and Michael and brother-in-law John Snyder Jr. Burial servce was held at Holy Angels Catholic Church at 138 North 8th Avenue in West Bend.

He was born 01 April 1924 in Clinton, Iowa, to Edward and Olga (Venske) Drews. Charles was raised in Milwaukee. He attended Riverside High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II. After his marriage to Hazel M. Kreuser on 09 November 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Milwaukee, the couple lived in Milwaukee. He was employed at the Milwaukee Athletic Club for over 43 years, retiring in 1989. The couple settled in West Bend in 1992.

He was also the assessor for the city of West Bend from 01 November 1960 until retiring on 07 June 1995.

Clarence L. Schoenbeck

Schoenbeck, a lifelong resident of the West Bend area, died at the age of 91 years on Friday, 21 January 2000 at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center, West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA. He was born on 10 October 1908 in the town of Trenton to Frank Schoenbeckand Katherine Paff. Clarence served his country in the United States Army during World War II in England, France, and Belgium later receiving a Letter of Commendation from his superior officers for his gallant service in the care of wounded prior to medical personnel arriving on the battlefield. Following his discharge, he was employment at the West Bend Company, where he worked for 46 years retiring in 1973. On 21 June 1947, he was united in marriage to Viola A. Schladweiler at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michaels. Viola preceded him in death on 27 September 1987.

Clarence was a member of the West Bend Fred A. Schaefer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1393 and the 25-Year Club at the West Bend Company. He was preceded in death by one brother, Arnold; and two sisters, Erna and Leona. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend with a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Father Jerry Repenshek presided and interment followed at Holy Angels Catholic Cemetery.

On 25 April 1953, he married Amatta Lichtensteiger at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Campbellsport, Fond du Lac County. Ray was a member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum. He was employed by Regal Ware Inc. in Kewaskum for 43 years, and at the time of his retirement in 1992, was chief inspector in the Quality Control Department. Ray was a member of the Regal Ware 25-Year club. He served his country in the United States Army in 1948. Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports and golf. Preceding him in death were a brother, Lloyd "Cocky" Keller and a great-granddaughter, Mikaela. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, 02 February at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum. Reverend. Timothy Henning officiated. Entombment took place on Thursday at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Geneva who passed away on 03 August 1999; a brother, Clyde Dukelow; a sister, Patricia (Gilbert) Neu and a sister-in-law, Rosemarie Dukelow. A mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, 31 January 2000 at St. Kilian Catholic Church, Hartford, which Father Franklyn Becker officiated. Internment was at St. Kilian Catholic Cemetery in that city.

Marvin V. Holschbach

      Marvin V. Holschbach of Branson, Taney County, Missouri, USA died unexpectedly at the age of 69 years on Monday, 24 Janury 2000 at St. John Hospital, Springfield, Green County. He was born Feb. 25, 1930, in Manitowoc, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin to Paul and Clara Holschbach. Marvin was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked in construction and retired from Vilter Manufacturing as a refrigeration service engineer in 1990. Marvin served on the Manitowoc City Council from 1971-'75. He and his wife moved from West Bend, Washington County to Branson in 1993. At the time of his death, Marvin was vice president of the Master Board of Holiday Hills Homeowners Association, was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Branson and was a member of the Wisconsin Pipe Trades Local 601 of Milwaukee. Preceding him in death were a brother, Jerome; a sister-in-law Corrinne Holschbach; and two brothers-in-law, Arnold Brandl and Leonard Mella. A visitation was held on Saturday, 05 February at St. Boniface Church, Manitowoc, followed by memorial services.

      Funeral services were held for Grafton, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA resident Wallace H. Strong who died at the age of 72 years on 03 January 2000 at Sinai Samaritan Medical Center. Visitation was at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton with Father Mike Barrett celebrating the funeral Mass. Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, Grafton. Mr. Strong was born in Shorewood, Milwaukee County on 06 September 1927, the son of James Strong and Marie Wickersheim. He married Gloria Smith on 05 November 1966 in Milwaukee. Mr. Strong served in the Army and worked as an installer for Ameritech. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton.

Glenn W. DeBruine

M, b. 03 January 1933, d. 07 February 2000
      Glenn W. DeBruine of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, formerly of Cedar Grove, Sheboygan County passed away at the age of 67 years on Monday, 07 February 2000 at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County where he had been a patient for two weeks. Glenn was born on 03 January 1933 in the town of Holland, Brown County to Willis DeBruine and Sadie Schreurs. He graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1951. Glenn served in the United States Army with the 6th Armored Division from 1953-'55. He was a cabinet installer much of his life, having worked for the Mallard Co. in West Bend. Glenn enjoyed furniture making, model ship building and oil painting as hobbies. He was preceded in death bu his two brothers, Ellsworth and Roland, and two brothers-in-law, Chester Brusse and Wesley Meeusen. Funeral services were held on Thursday, 10 February at the Huehns-Wenig Funeral Home, Oostburg, Sheboygan County. Reverend Richard Edwards officiated. Burial took place in Cedar Grove Presbyterian Cemetery.

William C. Merten

William C. "Bill" Merten of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, formerly of Menomonee Falls, Waukesha County died at the age of 77 years on Wednesday, 09 Febebruary 2000 at St. Luke Medical Center of Milwaukee, Milwauke County. William was born 05 May 1922 in Butler, Waukesha County to Lester Merten and Agnes Karr. He graduated from Shorewood High School, Milwaukee in 1940. Following his marriage to Virginia R. Drollinger on 04 March 1944 in Milwaukee, the couple lived in Menomonee Falls. He served with the United States Navy during World War II.
Bill was the owner and operator of the Merten Dairy of Menomonee Falls for some 30 years, retiring in the early 1980s, then settling in West Bend a few years later. Preceding him in death was a sister, Dorothy. Bill was a member of Northbrook Church of Richfield, Washington County. Funeral services were held on Saturday, 12 February at the Phillip Funeral Home in West Bend. Pastor Robert M. Robinson officiated. Interment followed at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield, Waukesha County.

Aaron A. Zielieke

      Aaron A. Zielieke of N944 Elmore Drive, Campbellsport, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, USA died at the age of 81 years on Wednesday, 09 February at the Samaritan Health Center in West Bend, Washington County. He was born in the town of Wayne on 10 January 1919, the son of Albert Zielieke and Martha Wehling. On 24 December 1943 he married Geraldine Thurman in Farmington. St. Francois County, Missouri. Aaron served in the United States Army during World War II from June 1941 until November 1945. He owned and operated Zielieke Well Drilling Inc. Aaron was a member of the Wisconsin Water Well Association, the National Ground Water Association and the Campbellsport Kettle Moraine Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8339. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Sylvia Baumhardt and one brother, Walter. Family services were held on Friday, 11 February at Twohig Funeral Home in Campbellsport. Rev. Louis Riesch officiated. Burial followed at Union Cemetery, Campbellsport.
