The Germantown Area Veterans Memorial is located in Firemans Park, on its northern edge along Freistadt Road, just east of Park Avenue. The monument was dedicated on Veterans Day, 11 November 2006.

Background

Activities to create the memorial began in 2005 when members of the Germantown American Legion Post 1 and Germantown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9202, specifically James Heimann, Melvin Ewert, and Kenneth Puls, came together in discussions on how to honor individuals in the greater Germantown area who honorably served in the United States Armed Services, and a memorial idea came to be. Germantown businesses were solicited to help in defraying startup costs, which they did honorably, although startup debt still remains. It was decided since monies would be involved, it would be best to isolate the memorial. Then was formed, the Germantown Veterans' Memorial Corporation and a standing committee was formed to manage the memorial.

Find A Name

The surnames of Honorees can be found listed on the left. Choose a surname and you are on your way. Enjoy this moment in time as you become acquainted with those whose names are inscribed on the Walls of Honor.

As you browse through the details of the honoree, you will see a line highlighted with "Wall Location:" You will also see a location reference, such as "East Marker WW, Row 5, Position 19" or West Marker EW, Row 3, position 09".

There are two marker stones, one is located on the east side of the monument and the other is on its west side. These granite markers stones are positioned in a north-south direction. Each marker stone has two sides where names will be inscribed. These wall sides are referred to as Walls of Honor.
