Unit:   August 1862; Anthony enlisted in Milwaukee in August of 1862. Was assigned to the Wisconsin 26th Regiment Infantry, Company E. He was discharged the result of wounds on 28 October 1864. Rank: Private.

On 6 October 1862, the 26th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment left Wisconsin for Washington DC. From there to Fairfax Court House, Virginia on 15 October; movement to Gainesville November 2, and duty there until November 18; to Centreville November 18, thence to Falmouth, Va. on December 9. Participated in the Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia on 15 December 15 as a reserve unit. Was at Stafford Court House until January 20, 1863; "Mud March" January 20-24; Stafford Court House until April 27. Participated in the Chancellorsville Campaign April 27 to May 6: battle of Chancellorsville May 1-5; Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Campaign June 11-July 24: Battle of Gettysburg July 1-3; pursuit of Lee to Manassas Gap, Virginia July 5-24. The regiment was located to Warrenton Junction until September 17, then moved to
Rappahannock Station September 17; Bridgeport, Alabama September 24 with duty there until October 27.

Reopening Tennessee River October 27-29; Battle of Wauhatchie October 28-29. This was followed by duty in Lookout Valley until November 22; Chattanooga - Ringgold Campaign November 23-27: Orchard Knob November 23; Tunnel Hill November 24-25; Mission Ridge November 25. The regiment then marched to relief of Knoxville, Tennessee, November 27with duty there until December 8. Duty in Lookout Valley until 25 Januar 1864, and at Whiteside, Ala., until 23 April.

The regiment participated in the Atlanta, Georgia Campaign from May 1 to September 8: demonstration on Rocky Faced Ridge May 8-11; Buzzard's Roost Gap May 8-9; Battle of Resaca May 14-15; Cassville May 19; New Hope Church May 25 with operations on line of Pumpkin Vine Creek and battles about Dallas, New Hope Church and Allatoona Hills May 25-June 5. This was followed by operations about Marietta and against Kenesaw Mountain June 10-July 2; Pine Hill June 11-14; Lost Mountain June 15-17; Gilgal or Golgotha Church June 15; Muddy Creek June 17; Noyes Creek June 19; Kolb's Farm June 22 with an assault on Kenesaw June 27; Ruff's Station July 4; Chattahoochie River July 5-17; Peach Tree Creek July 19-20. It participated in the Siege of Atlanta July 22-August 25; operations at Chattahoochie River Bridge August 26-September 2 and the occupation of Atlanta from September 2-November 15, 1864. It was at this point Anthony was discharged.
