The 1880 census had the family living at the Schulteis homestead in a house east of the homestead house. Head of Household: Mathias Odenbrett age 33, Mary age 34 his wife, Peter J. age 6, Katherine age 5, and Frederic age 2.8 In 1885 the family is found living on 40 acres of the Odenbrett homestead which at the time was owned by his father. It looks as though Peter was the first of the family to leave Wisconsin heading to Alton, Iowa. This happened around 1890-1894. Peter married there in 1896. Following Peter to Alton where the rest of the family around 1900. Most of the family remained in Alton for a few years, married, then moved on to Minnesota and South Dakota (1903-1907).

The children of Peter and Anna were talented musically. Each child played some instrument. Charles John Odenbrett told how as a little boy his father put him on a chair and placed a bass fiddle in front of him and said play. He played that fiddle and a button box accordion his entire life.

Brothers Bernard, Robert, and Charles had an old time band that played in the tri state area in the 40s and also on KWOA radio station every morning for three years. They had a man by the name of Eddie Skeet's who played guitar and Tiny Little on the piano. Eddie Skeet's went on to form his own band; he was quite famous in the Minneapolis area. Tiny Little Jr. went on to play with the Lawrence Welk Band.

In the mid 50's Robert and Charles moved their families to the Los Angeles area and with their children formed "Odenbrett Brothers Polka Band". Charles (Chuck) on bass and button box accordion, son Duane on accordion, Rick on trumpet, daughter Vonnie sang and played solo vox, Robert (Bob) on piano, son-in-law John Zak on banjo, daughter Shirley on piano and singing, son Gary on trumpet, Mike Belitz (friend) on accordion. None could read music . Later Duane learned but the others never did. The group played all around the southern California area as well as having several battles of music with Frank Yankovic. After the death of Bob's wife Lucille, each went their own way with different bands. Chuck was bass player for Frank Yankovic when he would be in California on a road trip, as well as with "Tomazin Brothers", Eddie Bell, Bill Guzel to name a few. He was on a record album with Bill Guzel Band which featured him in "Cherry Polka" playing both the button box and bass fiddle. He made several singles with the Eddie Bell Band. He played the bass until around 1989 and button box until 1993 when because of cancer he could no longer hold the accordion. Duane went on with sister Ginger on banjo and Mike Belitz on accordion to do the night club circuit, private parties, and weddings.
